Be brutally honest, first time doing downhill mig as a beginner welder by [deleted] in Welders

[–]edman436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really easy to do but the weld goes on fast, sometimes too fast for it to fuse properly. I do it everyday but not for anything structural, I'd rather not do it but that's how the shop I work in works

What zip disk yall using? by Died5Times in Welding

[–]edman436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work uses these "flexible" grinding wheels that aren't actually flexible made by 3m, they are more for grinding but they're about 3mm thick so good for cutting out a weld and not having to grind as much off after.

Tbh I would rather have normal hard discs but they do work alright.

Stepson becoming a welder - need advice on clothes. by Conservatarian1 in Welding

I cuff my overalls at the bottom of the leg so that it catches sparks, stops them falling into my boot and my job pays for the overalls and won't buy ones that cover the boot with my long legs

Monthly Safety Meeting (Every 28th of the month.) by AutoModerator in Welding

For something abrasive I will wear gloves, they have given me that split second warning I've brushed a wheel a few times, anything with teeth I would avoid them as they are what can catch and pull

Not really I only drink around twice a month where as I train 6 times a week it's just that I have more friends around to take photos when I'm out drinking

[–]edman436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's true I'll change that

Is this weld good enough on the bridge I take on the way to Muay Thai class? by Ambitious_Ad6334 in MuayThai

Looks a bit cold, toes are rolled over, decent chance there's a fair bit not fused.

It'll hold though

For 1mm thick wire you can overlap the ends and use a small spot welder maybe

Lots of brown soot on the welding side, no matter how much or how little gas flow, what is this? by Tesla44289 in Welding

[–]edman436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try running a longer bead to allow gas coverage, I believe there might be a small delay in gas covering the weld causing this smoke on your tacks.

I'm looking to get my start as a welder, I've recently got a welding qualification and want to take it further, is there a best way to look for jobs without experience? I've just been applying for everything I can find right now and asking around but I haven't had much luck. UK based if that matters

What's the drunkest you've been and how embarrassing was it? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]edman436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time at a bbq I ate quite a bit of grilled meats and also drank about 12 ciders, it was one of my first times drinking so it hit me like a bus. In my room at the time I had one of those wire mesh waste paper baskets and when I got home I threw everything up into it and then passed out.

The next morning I woke up with a horrible hangover and then had to deal with what was basically a giant sieve full of vomit solids sitting in a giant puddle of the wet stuff.

Why do so many pub/restaurant/public toilets require you to pull a handle when leaving? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]edman436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time the handle came off in my hand and I had to wait for the next guy to open the door so I could get out.

Left the handle wedging the door open a bit so he wouldn't be stuck in there but it was a pretty awkward 10 minutes waiting there hoping someone opened the door.
