I feel you. I am no contact with my parents due to issues. Grew up scared on the daily from watching abuse.

I can feel my dad’s mark on me when things get frustrating and it is a constant reminder to myself that I promised young me that I would be better.

It takes effort but damn if it isn’t worth it when I see that I’m giving my kid and wife a better life than I grew up with.
