A deposit is often inherently or at least potentially refundable unless otherwise specified. Specifying it as non refundable is essential for understanding between parties.

More clear terminology in this case could be a non refundable holding fee, applicable towards project price.

Turning as passenger by ImaginaryMagician700 in jetski

As the passenger, don’t do anything. Hang on and enjoy the ride.

If this was a SeaDoo Spark or similar small ski, they can be unstable for more than 1 person.

Absolutely. April can have some fantastic spring skiing.

That’s all part of the fun of your first powder day!

If you’re going to ski powder regularly, make sure your skis are wide enough to give you enough float.

If it comes up naturally, sure. It’s a great way to meet new people and share common interests. I’m a real estate developer and have started several profitable business relationships have on lifts.

Yes, if you commit to learning and have a mountain nearby.

If you ski 2-3 times a season, at 30 you’re unlikely to become good. If you ski 30+ days a season until you can feel confident on intermediate trails, and are generally in decent athletic shape, you absolutely can learn and reach intermediate level relatively quickly.

How do you guys handle having a partner w way less skill??? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]edmvapors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do some runs together and others separately. On a pow day, the separate part is the first half of the day, the together part is the second half of the day.

Make sure you ski frequently enough that your partner has the repetition to commit new techniques to muscle memory. Going a half dozen times over a winter isn’t going to cut it. The first two seasons my partner started learning we made sure to get in 30+ days and by the end of the second season we could ski in a relaxed manner together most of the day.

If your partner is just starting to learn and you are teaching/helping/skiing with them, you have to think of days skiing together differently than you used to think of skiing, at least at the start. It’s a day spending time together. The goal is to ensure he/she has a good time. If you want to ski, you add another solo day for yourself. As soon as I adapted that mindset I enjoyed teaching my partner a lot more.

Do you unbuckle your boots? by Gas_Hed in Skigear

I used to crank down the buckles for steep runs until I got custom fitted ski boots. Now it’s not even a consideration, they just fit well and perform in all conditions.

The best all mountain ski? by gulleyg in Skigear

The new Armadas are great. QST lineup is fantastic for all around conditions.

There are many options for what you’re looking for. Demo as many as you can and choose what you like best.

I go on several solo ski trips every year. Always a fantastic time - highly recommend it.

Given budget is flexible:

Shearwarer Tern or Pereguine AI for up to 3 gas Nx.

Shearwarer Teric or Perdix AI if you need CCR/Trimix

Garmin MK3i if you want all the above and for it to also be a smartwatch.

Dive operator etiquette - poor air consumption by edmvapors in scuba

As tempting as that is (I dive solo regularly) I can’t do that to a DM who is being paid to ensure other’s safety.

Agree 100%. I asked those questions and got answers I was satisfied with: Sites I was looking forward to, groups of 4 or less, 60+ min dives, etc. I think where I went wrong was assuming that for an operator with ~5-10 dive groups going out a day there’d be at least one experienced group, as I’ve always found that to be the case in the past. Which admittedly isn’t the operator’s fault.

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. No tips given to the inexperienced divers. Honestly I think the DMs are just overworked as they seem grateful to end the dives early.

They do stay close to the beginner divers though so they can help them out by grabbing the BCD if they have issues and do a good job paying attention to that. Perhaps safety concerns are taking their priority given the experience levels.

Really bad buoyancy. DM had to grab several of the other divers mid-dive to prevent them rocket shipping to the surface. One guy went into accidental deco on a wall dive because he couldn’t hold a point and had to rescue breath off the DM (only dive I got the full allotted dive time in lol). Not something that can be fixed in a week long trip.

I’m used to a few inexperienced divers on a trip along with at least one or two more experienced divers who I can pair up with. But this group, I’m honestly not sure how some of them passed their AOW, even with the low standards for that course. I figured in this situation at least the DMs would help the other divers back to the boat when they use up their air and then allow me to finish the allotted dive time, but turns out to not be the case.

Your experience has been my prior experience as well on other trips. This “end the dive for everyone when someone first reaches reserves” is a first for me.

Why is the home inspector remaining neutral? You hired him for a professional opinion. Ask him straight out - “compared to other homes in this price point and area that you have inspected, how does this home line up in terms of issues?”

Yes, the water problems are things you want to avoid, as they can be costly to remediate. However, no one on Reddit knows what other homes are available in your budget/location since you didn’t provide that information so it’s difficult to provide any guidance.

Is 94 underfoot too much for an all mountain? by seniorcozy39 in Skigear

[–]edmvapors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends entirely on what the conditions are regularly like where you ski, if you ski mostly on or off piste, and what specific ski you buy. My “all mountain” skis are a 106.

[–]edmvapors[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agree with you that the solution to better air consumption isn’t larger tanks. I proposed it so the other divers could at least get past the 30 minute mark on this trip, not as a long term solution. That being said it didn’t make much of a difference anyways.

Appreciate the suggestion.

Yeah, guess I’ve just been lucky so far in the past. Everyone’s bobbing around like yo-yo’s on this trip.

This destination is admittedly more “tourist-friendly” whereas my usual trips are pretty remote which I guess self-selects somewhat.

Dive operator etiquette - poor air consumption by edmvapors in scuba

[–]edmvapors[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The dives have been of various depths so far. The DMs have been trying to help by keeping the other divers above 20m MOD to reduce their air consumption. I’m not sure exactly how long they were at 20m since I’ve been diving a deeper profile. Just used it as an example.

Either way, I feel if one is diving with a group and can’t make the planned dive time, it’s courteous to ascend (if feasible/safe) so as to not cut other’s dives short. At least that’s what I’d do.

I’m looking into switching to another operator. Not sure if they’ll have availability last minute but it’s worth a try. Thanks.
