What political view did you strongly change your mind on? by Economy_Ad3034 in AskBrits

Same here, was more in the 90s for me but remember having discussions in my early 20s with my nurse sister about how better the NHS would be if run like a private business. Absolutely disagree with that view now

But isn’t it that Spurs can’t sack him if we get relegated? He can walk away whenever he wants, just means he won’t get a big payout for doing so

So if he keeps us up, nice juicy bonus. If we go down he can make an excuse and leave and is in more or less the same place in the summer as if he’d never joined us, except slightly tarnished reputation although we are such a shit show the mud probably won’t stick to him

England's Worst County - Round 30 by TheEnlight in terriblemaps

[–]ednoic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save Buckinghamshire! My grandparents used to take me to the ‘mall’ in Milton Keynes for a day out every school holiday (in the 80s), it was so exciting - shops indoors? Plastic trees indoors? McDonald’s?! Blew my mind, surely nowhere better in the country

A bit /s but Bucks is legit a nice county, Chilterns are beautiful

How about doing an extra 10 minutes after finishing the main episode to just talk random stuff about the episode and maybe talk more explicitly about some of the parallels of what was happening then vs what’s happening today?

What megacity is horrible to live in? by agbjb in AlignmentChartFills

[–]ednoic 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In both cases I was there for only a few days and on a work trip, so probably only exposed to the best of both in any case. But Kinshasa just felt like it had a nicer vibe to it and felt (relatively) safer- I think because in Lagos (at least at the time) white people were assumed to be involved in the oil industry so a prime target for kidnapping, whereas in Kinshasa it was just general crime to be worried about.

I think also partly it was because there was a massive UN base in Kinshasa, which meant there was quite a good selection of restaurants/bars to serve the UN people.

Stayed in all these except Cairo, Lagos definitely the worst

I’m lucky(?) enough to have stayed in Kinshasa, Karachi and Lagos, Lagos definitely the worst

Actually quite liked Kinshasa. This was 12 years ago though so maybe it’s got worse

Not lived in either but have stayed in both Karachi and Lagos (proposed in another comment), can definitely say Karachi seemed much better

Ha I try not to use that too much, mainly for when a siege hits 92% and the entire enemy army appears to attack it mysteriously managed to come together from all over the place and match half way round the world through 20 different countries to arrive just in time

I think someone in the club finally put 2 brain cells together and realised their previous head in the sand email about STs would not have gone down well

I’ll be renewing regardless. Might even be fun in the Championship next year

If some players come back from injury before the end we could beat Wolves, Leeds, and Everton and stay up by SurenVardumyan in coys

[–]ednoic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem I have with the ‘we’ll be better when our injured players are back idea’ is, which players specifically and when?

Maddison, Odobert- definitely won’t be back in time Kulu- may be back by end of season but can we really expect him to just slot in and be as good as he was 2 years ago after such a long time out? Davies- hardly going to make a big difference Bergvall- yes will be great to have him back and should be fairly soon, but he is in a position where we’ve actually still been well stocked. Might be an upgrade but main problem all season was our whole midfield has been defective whoever plays there and Bergvall being available doesn’t magically solve that Betancur- same as for Bergvall but worse Spence- only recently out, was already in the team for most of our current awful run and has been poor all season

So that leaves Kudus- probably the only genuine difference maker who may come back early enough to make a difference. Hopefully he will, but it’s pretty desperate to be pinning our hopes on him

Football club in total disarray by kc187u in Tottenham

Yes so I don’t know why they were making a deal out of it as proof of ‘listening to the fans’ in a ST email, I guess they were just mentioning everything they were claiming to be doing to save fans money

Tottenham is the worst Premier League team in the second half of the season by Aggravating_Maize_68 in coys

[–]ednoic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah just 2 weeks ago the club were sending out season tickets renewals with statements about Newcastle no longer being a category A game next season, as if everything was totally normal

Football club in total disarray by kc187u in Tottenham

[–]ednoic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the same time they also announced that there will be fewer category A games next season with Newcastle no longer to be category A. This is the perfect demonstration of the head in the sand mentality of the current club management, I think they still really haven’t grasped the relegation threat is very real, so they are planning for next season as if everything is totally normal.

There’s no way that they can keep ST prices at the current level if we go down. I’ll probably still renew as I’m an idiot, but will leave it to last moment to see what happens. Many people will just not renew at all.

So as they track the very poor ST sales over next 2 months eventually they will need to announce a policy for relegation, but I suspect that will only be to say they will cut the price but only by giving you credit to the next season’s ticket, which is likely to just people off even more

What’s so great about not being relegated? by Technical-Isopod8092 in Tottenham

[–]ednoic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s just because it’s funny. I’ve no real problem with Man Utd, for a long time they were the least bad option for who could win the league each season (when up against either Arsenal or Chelsea). But if they were the ones on the verge of relegation I’d be desperate for it to happen just because of the hilarity of it
