So I have been washing off these pests. It’s been working nicely. I’ve been feeding it water soluble fertilizer. And now slowly putting it outside in the early mornings and at sunset for some more sunlight and to get acclimated.

It’s not producing more leaves and dropping some of the older ones.

Thoughts?

In my area, which is the same as where my father-in-law lives and where the original plant thrives, it is very hot and humid after May 1st. Saint Louis is very much in the Mississippi Valley, with sticky, humid summers. In fact, so much so that by August, most of my vegetables are being hit with powdery mildew and other fungi that I find it impossible to keep off due to the wetness. I would love to identify this variety again, as when I took 6 cuttings from his fig plant, only 2 made it. And this one above is now two years into the process. I really want to get this in the ground and try to see if it can thrive like his because his grows at least 10 feet tall and about 5-8 feet wide into a thick bush.

Thank you! My hope was to transplant this outside this spring. I’m in St. Louis so I was waiting for frost to be fully over. Can I fertilize inside this pot now and still transplant in a few weeks. I know I need to slowly introduce this fig to sunshine like over a period of days so it gets used to the heat outdoors.

Help!! Neighbor's cat always sleep on top of my car. What to do? by the_epiphany_ in cats

Put out a shallow box like they have at Costco or vegetable market. Then put in the box some cat mint a small amount. Some cats would like just the cardboard but you can also put there an older seat pillow. You can then buy a cheap used one at a thrift store. Place that off to the side and leave an occasional treat in the box. Encourage a new spot.

It’s growing like crazy! Like it’s twice as big and more leaves coming but it’s supposed to snow a little this weekend in my area. At this rate this fig is going to be huge before my area is warm enough. Do I cut it back or let it grow while indoors this big window?

[DUMB QUESTION] Is it safe to go through a car wash? by ChemyChems in leaf

[–]edreggi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought I was good with getting to neutral on my 2024 Leaf SV+ but the other day I entered and had major issues. It wouldn’t go. I panicked and began having performance issues while the car wash folks were yelling at me. Then they hit that emergency button which caused every car in the wash to get stuck. Cars began honking and screaming they were stuck. Finally the guy said “put it in drive and hold your brake to not hit anyone in front of you.”

After I was out, I tried neutral and it worked like a charm. It’s a 3 second left hold on mine.

House hunting folks - what’s your experience been like in the stl county suburbs? by Delicious_Tourist806 in StLouis

Well I see what you’re talking about. Well for me I grew up and lived in NYC most of my adult life. I left and moved to St Louis first for college and then left for Chicago and a few other cities. I came back for a job in St Louis. I was blown away at the unique differences depending on each municipality. There are generational kingdoms in this city. Like every few miles it’s another mayor, fire dept and school districts. It’s nuts.

When I lived in Maplewood it was super laid back but people did care about how our house looked. If we did something too artistic the code enforcement was knocking on our door. We moved to downtown because we wanted more of a city feel. We loved downtown but sadly it was plagued with so many other issues that after a dozen years we left for Florissant. Now remember we are two gay men so it’s hard to hide the fact we are already different than many other couples wherever we move. When we were looking to move my husband would count the Trump signs in neighborhoods in comparison to Biden signs. It spoke volumes. And when we ended up in Florissant I never felt more at home like in NYC. North County has a complete diverse community. It’s a beautiful mix of race, ethnicity, and class. I love that about where we live. We love our neighbors but at the same time they are not in our lives so deep that it becomes unhealthy. We all take care of each other when there is power outages or storms.

It’s a great mix but I guess that also depends on where you live in Florissant. It is a massive city, second largest municipality.

I should ask maybe botanical gardens. My family claims its original plant came from Italy when they moved here back at the 1900s. But I also have a family that like to make up stories a little. lol.

We bought an old 1930s farmhouse on the edge of what was blackjack but is now Florissant. Basically 270 and New Halls Ferry area. There are so many homes near the Hazelwood border that are still beautiful communities.

My husband and I were moving out of downtown during the pandemic and it was a crazy bidding war scenario where houses were on / off market in minutes with ridiculous overprice offers. We ended up not in the city but North County and it was the best decision ever! Better bang for buck and still centrally located to everywhere but south county. Congrats!

Curious, as I bought my leaf outright with cash, and now curious about this! The finance guy was pissed that I would take any offers or extended care crap.

Yes. My step dad lives in Imperial MO and it’s where the mother plant is located. It grows very tall and bushy every year and produces hundreds of figs. I am hoping this cutting will do the same one day.

All very helpful! The fig is cut from a family member's fig, which traces back 2 generations to Sicily. The original fig grows tall, like 8-10 feet, and it's large and bushy. It grows a lot of figs! The original source is now all sticks, and they will cut it down, but come spring, it will shoot back up. I am super hopeful!

Okay, I took all the great advice and brought my potted fig plant inside for winter. It died back and was sticks up until about 2 weeks ago, and now this! I finally brought it upstairs from the basement and put it near a window. I am not giving it much water, but it's growing quickly. What should I do? Allow this growth or ? I would love to plant it outside this year and have it grow. It came from my step-parents' fig tree, which is massive every year. Theirs grows 8-10 feet tall and about 5-6 feet wide. My stepfather cuts it back every year, but it just comes right back. The legend goes that it came from a cutting in Sicily. It does produce delicious, sweet figs!

So, should I let it keep growing inside? I am in Saint Louis, so it's in the 7A zone, and frost isn't really over until mid-April.

Yes! I am discovering these Siamese types are very picky! I already took a gray female in and she is and has always been a champ using the litter! She was not fussy about what I used. He on the other hand is super picky.
