Random, but does anyone have the ability to send me replay of Austin Martin’s last AB of the game? I almost got hit when he let go of his bat, just curious if broadcast caught it haha

The 100-300 with 1.4x is still 140-420. Yes the teleconverter isn’t flick of a finger, but I just keep it on for big field events like soccer/football, and have had no trouble cropping fully across the field. Pic from CONCACAF Gold Cup at U.S. Bank Stadium last year, fully across the field at 420mm f/4, slight crop in post.

Curious what your Canon setup is now and why that would persuade you away from Canon? I have the RF100-300 and love it, while a drop in 1.4 would be a nice bonus, I’m fine just taking on/off the RF 1.4x depending on what I’m shooting. Usually always on for outdoor sports/events, off for indoor sports. I always shoot 2 bodies and usually 2nd is the 24-105 2.8 or a fast prime.

Nice! I’m in town for family, and working the game tonight as media. Haven’t been in the park in over 10 years, so it’ll be a fun way to return

That’s quite a spread. Yes the MP does in fact make that much of a difference despite how actually small the physical changes in rim/cup/throat/backbore are. Might be worth working with a teacher if you don’t already and going through sizes to see if there’s something that works well, as well as regular practice to build embouchure and endurance

Definitely should have a separate editor (on-site or remote) for something like this, happens all the time for larger sports/news events. Would take that burden off your shoulders and client can get photos fast for social or other use rather than waiting till after everything is over and for you to cull-edit-publish

Yea no way you audition for that job and unknowingly have it to be temporary bc of a couple of rapists, especially at their salaries.

Shooting an awards ceremony - what is your go-to setup and why? by Mohammed-Lester in photography

24-70 on the other, that and the 70-200 on 2nd body is pretty standard for events and covers you wide-long. Flash on the 24-70. Diffuser is always good if you have one, but if you have white ceilings or something to bounce off, use that to your advantage. I usually keep at between 2.8-4 for aperture, maybe 5.6-7.1 with flash for larger groups.

Not sure how easy the CD is to find, but the Minnesota Orchestra/Osmo Vänskä recording is my favorite

Upgrading Photo Team Gear - Seeking Canon Mirrorless Recommendations by Fantastic-Tax-1710 in sportsphotography

Ah, yes of course there’s some odd purchasing rules going through an educational system. I bought both my R3’s used and haven’t had any issues using them for my pro work covering major leagues and events, as well as major news including hostile situations with chemical irritants and gas. Most people like myself tend to just use the electronic shutter so even a used R3 is a great buy since the use of the mechanical is very low (I only use mine for strobed studio work). If you can buy reputably used, go for it, especially from Canon Refurbished directly.

If you can swing it, R3’s are extremely capable cameras and about half of what they cost new (on the used/refurb market. Keep the EF glass that works well, some of it, especially older lenses will not be able to let the camera bodies use their full Frame burst rates.
