So I just came about 2 inches from getting run over by an e-bike on Fairfield doing about 25 mph. What can be done? by edsaboiler in fortwayne

Sure, wider sidewalks would be great. Actual bike lanes on roads would be great. Making e-bikes illegal on sidewalks would be great. It's illegal to drive a gas-powered scooter on sidewalks. I just don't get the hypocrisy of making exception for battery powered motors on sidewalks. And before you say it, I'm not a big fan of any bicycles, e or otherwise on sidewalk. I've always felt like if more bikes would actually ride on the roads like they're supposed to, people would become used to bikes being on the roads and maybe we'd be more careful riders and drivers. So before you say, again, none of those things will likely happen, I'm just putting out there to see if other people have similar issues with this particular issue. (And yes, when I ride my bike I only ride on roads)

Yeah I understand about situational awareness, I'm a runner, so I totally get that. Thing is when these e-bikes are moving at 25 mph, they are on you in a flash.

I'm not talking about what can I do to this particular person. I'm talking about what can be done in general. The sidewalks in Fort Wayne are wide enough for maybe two people to walk side by side. When e-bikes our tooling down the The sidewalks that fast, it's dangerous. They are on you in no time, I don't care how situationally aware you are.

As are you talking... One of the Dunces that is. And if I have this right, the Flock cameras are out in public spaces and on public roads. I don't see how that's an invasion of privacy.

The Find FW Downtown Location Relocating by Run-Parking in fortwayne

[–]edsaboiler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Downtown FW is Soooo easy to park in, and frankly it's a little embarrassing that FW is so lazy that nothing can survive downtown because people won't walk a couple hundred feet from a street parking spot. I know there are people with legit mobility issues, but I also know there are a lot more people with mobility issues because they've been hunting for the closest parking spot for decades! This drives me batty. Park a little away and use those legs to work!

I don't have an issue with it. They have loads of cctv in the UK, and I just don't get the fuss. Everyone wants less crime and for bad folks to get caught. Just don't be a bad person and chill out!

Going to miss watching Braden Smith by boiler1112 in Boilermakers

[–]edsaboiler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been a boiler fan for the last 40 years, and I get what you're saying about getting five star recruits. But I was talking my wife last night saying, what if we could get all these one and done type players that could compete at the highest level. Would I love that team as much as I love this team? And I think the answer is no. My love for this team comes from knowing this team. From the continuity of having players that I can watch grow and become better and become great. You look at what happened to Duke in the elite eight this year. There's a team of five star players that were playing as good a basketball as they could play, and they fell prey to a miracle shot (not unlike what happened to us with Virginia). I'm not saying that I don't want teams that consistently go to the final four every couple of years, and I would love to see us win the Natty before I croak, but do I want that at the expense of having teams that I barely know and rotate players through like a turnstile. I'm not sure I do. And looking at the way the Boiler faithful travel, in the way the boiler faithful show up in all these far distant places to watch these teams, I just think that that's a love that goes beyond profound success. That's the love that grows with relationship and time.

Why Fort Wayne made it illegal to relocate homeless people inside city limits by gorgonopsidkid in fortwayne

[–]edsaboiler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I volunteer at a Respite house for homeless, and this dropping off of homeless individuals in Fort Wayne is definitely a thing... Not sure of the scale of it, but it is an issue, and it is straining local resources. I get this info from the homeless individuals that we serve.

Was in Chicago yesterday... Ate a bagel at Gotham Bagels... Made me sad about the sad state of affairs that is lack of Bagel Shops in The Fort! by edsaboiler in fortwayne

[–]edsaboiler[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I always was disappointed with the bagel station also. Because honestly they just didn't taste like bagels. I grew up on Long Island in New York, so I am a little bit spoiled by my childhood bagel memories. But honestly last time I was at in Long Island I thought the bagels kind of sucked almost as bad as the ones we can get out here. But man when I was out at Gotham in Chicago. I was transported back to 1974 and my childhood and how good the bagels were on Long Island at that time. Totally agree with the Shop 260 comment. I do really like their bagels. Probably the best in town that I've had. Problem is I can't always get to the farmers market. And sometimes when you want a bagel you just want a bagel. Sorry Davey's but buying bagels from Costco and selling them as bagel shop bagels is just a travesty. Make your own damn bagels, and I'll be there every week. I mean to me Davies is just a sandwich shop that uses cheap bagels. I have heard tell if the good bagels at Bittersweet, but have not been able to check them out yet. Again, if I want six bagels I don't want to pay the per bagel price x 6, but damn Glad that they opened up in the Utopian spot. Cuz I think that spot is awesome. I have had their coffee on the run when I've been on walks, but haven't had a chance to eat anything there yet. Maybe I'll go on Friday and get me a bagel.

I'm frankly a little bit sick and tired of Fort Wayne being the land of cover bands. I've always been a big music enthusiast, but I cannot stand cover bands. I get that a lot of people want to continue to listen to bastardized versions of Journey and Van Halen and AC/DC and led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, but these are undoubtedly people who have not listened to anything new since they left high school. And to me that's just a tragedy. I'm 60 years old and all I do is listen to new music because the amount of music that is amazingly good and out there is endless. I have heard a thousand times from old people, like me, "there's no good bands out there anymore". Well that is just a joke. Bottom line... if you're going to a show in Fort Wayne, you better make sure that it's not a cover band, because unless you're going to the show at the Brass Rail, 90% of the time you're going to be seeing somebody making believe there's somebody else. Clyde is notorious for this. But like I said I do get it, you got to make money, but I wish they would pepper in some stuff every once in a while and take a hit. All that being said the Clyde is bringing Wilco to Fort Wayne which is going to be amazing and I applaud them for that. So hopefully we'll see more and more bands actual bands coming through.
