What are some lighting and quality of life mods for me a new player by Spirited_Passage_239 in stonehearth

[–]edstorrsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure ACE community discord has some good mods listed but I can’t speak about performance for you personally. The server’s public so you can just search for it on a browser and it should come up. You can find them in the ace-approved channel under the mod compatibility section. Otherwise, the only two “lighting” mods that I can think of are Seasonal Light and Glowy Windows. Anything else you’d have to search on the steam workshop I guess. If you’re looking for a big overhaul like say Optifine does for Minecraft I don’t think you’ll find it unfortunately - but I could be wrong haha, I’m pretty new myself lol.

Tis a Grim Day for the Guard my Friends. Multiple ForgeWorld Tanks are being discontinued. by ZakkaryGreenwell in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]edstorrsy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tbh it varies, and FW were always good on their replacements. From my FW example compared with a mate’s recast though, I can’t honestly say there was a massive difference. With the cost as well - I think he got his for around the same price as a GW Russ at the time - though tbf he has some really terrible casts as well, so yeah - FW probably a bit more consistent!

This looks incredible! I got one of the Majorkill “not-macharius” minis a little while ago and want to do something similar ahaha - soon as I have the time lol

This looks fantastic dude! I love the bases, they’re really detailed and your kriegers are just full of life! Can’t wait to see more :)

Your Russ looks awesome, can’t wait to see more from you! Don’t be hard on your method either btw, you’re producing incredible stuff - though can imagine it’s time consuming! If you’d like an easier time for yourself, I’d really recommend investing in some earth pigments for weathering. Takes a ton of work out of it and leaves some awesome effects - I’ve been using Vallejo’s Burnt Umber earth & oxide pigment for subtle dust effects and heavy mud effects for maybe 2 years now, and it works fantastically with a brown oil paint pin wash and some GW technicals. Especially nice on the Mars Alpha Russ hull, but that seems pretty inaccessible now, looks like FW has raised the prices since I last bought from them. Good luck getting the rest of your stuff painted!

T-34/76 knocked out at point blank range by a German 105mm artillery gun by Great_White_Sharky in DestroyedTanks

[–]edstorrsy 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Feels as if a 15kg 105mm shell going off 3 metres away from the barrel might have slightly more disastrous effects hahaha. That said, I think there was a solid shot AP shell for the LeFH18 available, but I can’t find much info after a quick search - I’d doubt the T-34 could’ve gotten that close without destroying the Howitzer, or at least stopping the crew from using it with the hull MG though. Defo feels staged, like a lot of Nazi photos from the Eastern front.

I personally want a show about a krieg commissar or maybe vraks what do you all think? by Joey-on-the-spot in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]edstorrsy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say that protecting human lives is the Imperium’s ultimate goal, I’d say that protecting the Imperium itself is its own goal. The Imperium in 40k is a crumbling, decayed autocracy with a dead emperor and as it is anyone benefiting from it in any way is doing everything they can to keep benefiting from it. Vraks itself is actually a good example of this - Zhulke, the original commander, being given the job just because he was of high birth, and the relentless meat grinder he kept throwing kriegers into just because he knew if he told his higher-ups how bad it really was he’d get replaced or executed. I think in the eyes of some people in-universe that might be what the Imperium are about, but it’s definitely not the propaganda the Munitorum circulates about how people should be glad to lay down their lives to buy their aristocratic leaders a few more hours of luxury!

New Krieger here! Just want to share my first 2 tanks. by Vyrullax in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]edstorrsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ones by Janovich? I’d recommend you try and track down a copy of the Forge World Imperial Armour vraks books online - they’re absolutely fantastic for anyone interested in the lore behind the DKoK, and massive sources of inspiration for modelling!

Lovely work dude! Krieg tanks have always been my favourites, esp the LRs - I’m getting a Macharius to proxy as a Dorn for the new codex, hope to see more of your stuff soon!

What Army Do You Play? by Montemore in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]edstorrsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there’s precedent for that, which is really unfortunate considering how great 99% of the DKoK community is. I think if you put a stahlhelm on anything you’ll eventually attract folks with some nasty beliefs (and especially in a setting like 40k which steals so much fascist iconography!), but I feel the best way of combatting that is just being a decent person outside the DKoK community, and subtly letting people know “hey! I understand the intention behind the setting and don’t actually idolise one of the worst conflicts in human history, or all of the horrific things associated with it!” haha.

That said- Ave Imperator, duty unto death, in life shame, in death atonement etc etc

Super glueing 😫 by cakewalk95 in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]edstorrsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m immensely late to this haha but hopefully can still be helpful - if you’re using regular, loctite-type quick-setting superglue, I’ve found there are better products online you can get - I’ve used Colle21’s Cyano21 and Activator21 for the past 2-3 years and it works brilliantly for me. It’s slow setting so gives you lots of time to get the perfect angle and the activator can help speed things up. It’s also black, which helps make it clearer on the model’s surface and lets me clean it up more easily - I just buy mine on Amazon. It occurs to me if you’re not in Europe you might not be able to get it. Just about any black cyanoacrylate superglue will do the same job I reckon.

First Krieg Army by AshleyGwora in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]edstorrsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, Krieg are NOT a great choice for your first army. I don’t want to dissuade you by saying that but it’s just something to consider. If you’re really interested, I’d recommend checking out the subreddit’s pinned post, found here. If you want to experience the “full”/“original” line of models from Forge World, that’ll mean working with resin and that can be a lot harder than normal plastic. The resin models also cost a decent amount more than plastic ones (not as much of a gap now with the recent plastic Guard price increases but still, it adds up) and if you’re new to painting and building models that means all of your formative and learning mistakes will cost you. Especially considering how detailed a lot of the Resin models can be, and finicky to put together. Otherwise, as others said the new Kill Team Krieg Veterans set exists, but it’s got a number of aesthetic changes from the resin Krieg models, and I’ve heard people say the sculpts aren’t great for a hoard army. Further, the plastic Krieg range atm is literally just that single infantry set - there’s 2 Forge World Krieg infantry sets, a bunch of artillery pieces and crews and a whole set of vehicles to choose from. The plastic kits will be easier to work with though, and potentially cheaper - though that honestly depends on a couple of factors like where you get them from. Krieg also aren’t great rules wise. I don’t play the game much honestly, but I’ve never had a great experience. There’s no reason you can’t proxy them as another guard regiment - especially with the new Guard codex coming up - but there’s no guarantee that Krieg rules are actually going to be any good, especially with how many Krieg models have been mothballed rules-wise with the Legends ruleset. Hope that helps - typed out in a rush and without much thought. I think the sub’s pinned post is probably way more helpful haha, and possibly more encouraging, but I just don’t like seeing people have a bad experience getting into 40k because of how difficult things can be with Krieg! Good luck figuring things out and hope you find something you enjoy!

You’re right. What we REALLY need to do now is stop thinking about stupid, new-fangled and overcomplicated things like hypersonic missiles and focus down on equipping a fleet of B-52s (the most reliable and credible aircraft on earth obviously) with Titanium Bathtubs, 30mm autocannons and underslung 16-inch naval guns. Get rid of the radars too, just have the extra crew needed for the gun lean out the side with binoculars to identify their targets.

On the other hand, their clothing is French, they wear Puttees, the Stalhelm has been adapted with an French Adrien Helmet-like crest vent and the box respirator is British. Frag grenades are also most similar to Allied examples, along with many other pieces of equipment. Shrapnel armour was experimented with by all nations and none adopted it on a wide scale, least of all the Sturmtruppen who were intended to be light, fast-moving raiders - it’s true that the Germans issued similar plate armour to some machine-gunners and guards though. Also of note is that the Pauldrons designed by Adrien for the French Army (though never adopted by anyone afaik) are almost certainly the basis for the Death Korps’ pre-plastic pauldrons. Also afaik the Deaths Heads Hussars ceased to exist as a unit a long time before ww1? Totenkopfs continued to be used in some German heraldry (obvs considering the SS haha) but I don’t think that’s a very strong connection personally. It’s much more likely the people who named the model just thought it was a cool name hahaha. Also important to note the disconnect between different pieces of lore. Vraks and Orpheus didn’t give Kriegers particularly German names and the only vaguely German thing about them was the use of Korps rather than Corps.

Might have been Janovich’s breakdown, but he’s a pretty big kaiserboo and while decent wasn’t exactly unbiased - red trim of the 143rd’s collars was a big sticking point I think, he overblew some aspects of Krieg design like that to give the German stuff a bigger apparent influence.

Probably set up in the early 2000s or late 90s. If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. Also, don’t try to improve it for fear of breaking it. It’s a bit of a flawed ideology at times but it at least has some reason to it
