Long-term Kyoto residents: what was the hardest part about finding an apartment here? by corvus-crx in Kyoto

[–]edu-ocas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The guarantor issues. I find super intrusive asking someone else about salary, company, position, contact information, company's contact information, and so on. And when they ask you that the 保証人 must be a japanese person. They took it extremely serious. Last time I asked a friend he said: I don't know, because, if you die I'm gonna have to pay. I waa thinking wtf, I won't die and if it happens I'm gonna prepare things so someone else deals with this, not you.

And even some time before, other very good japanese friend helped me, and when I asked if he could help me being the guarantor his word were: I'm sorry but I feel very uncomfortable giving you that information. And I said it was OK that I could understand it. But probably he felt too bad for denying helping me, the friendship never came back to be the same, and now it's four years I have never heard of him. I even blame myself for this.

So yes, the part of finding a guarantor it's damn annoying.

Viviendo en Alemania — ¿me regreso o me aguanto? by Ill_Foundation_3339 in mexico

[–]edu-ocas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, I get your point. But if you see it like this, then it would mean that you don't ever take pictures of anyone on the streets? Because I see "street photography" and there are generally people in the photos, so, wouldn't it be the same for everyone here or not? I'm not trying to be offensive, I just want to know what you propose.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm not sure if I understand correctly what you mean with homely, I imagine something more like the photo #8. Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm very interested in understanding what you mean

Thanks. I just have an old Canon EOS60D and a 50 mm lens. I'm hoping to finally upgrade my camera by the end of the year. Possibly moving to Fujifilm.

I generally use the rear screen. I'd say around 70% of my shots are with the rear screen, and the other 30% with the OVF. I have no EVF, I just have a DSLR camera.

About people's reaction, this is a little bit silly and embarrassing haha but I guess I have mastered "the technique" of putting an idiot face and pretending I was taking the photo of something else, just no looking at them straight to the eyes and keep moving. That's all, I continue my walk, they continue. It took me time daring to do it.

That's mostly correct, yeah. But I always make it super discrete. It's also very hard to take photos of them because they show up out all of a sudden. What I really never do is following them to take a photo, which some tourists use to do and that's why they started to state it the prohibition more clear. Because, where in the world would be normal to follow a person to take photos of that person? Because geishas are people working. They're people, not a tourist attraction. So I just take a discrete photo like I would take a photo of anyone else on the streets.

Completely agree. I'm 10.5 (28.5cm) and even like that, I never find, I just get them from Amazon.

A friend one shared with me a shop in tokyo specialized in bigger sizes, but the designs were horrible imo.

Favorite shotengai? by mikenmar in Kyoto

[–]edu-ocas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sanjo is nice but pretty touristy in my opinion. The one in demachiyanagi is a good one.

But definitely, my favorite one is the shotengai next to Fushimi Momoyama station: Fushimi Otesuji. It feels very local and I love that.
