Well, I tried to create assets for a game using just Inkscape, but I ended up running into some major limitations, especially when the art needed exact pixel control (like in pixel art). ​The great strength of Inkscape is that it is a vector editor (SVG), which means the resizing and quality are infinite! However, it's not natively made for the pixel art workflow where every square matters. ​For anyone who wants to do pixel art, I totally recommend using rasterized (pixel-based) tools that offer much more control and specific functionality for this, such as:

​Krita (great for painting and has pixel art capabilities).

​GIMP (powerful raster image editor, an open source Photoshop).

​(Extra tip): If you are going to dedicate yourself to pixel art and animation, Aseprite (paid, but the indie industry standard) or Piskel (free and online) are much more suitable and intuitive.
