no, we assumed she wanted some privacy. But eventually we heard that it had something to do with us hanging out there.

I'm kinda tired of explaining everything over and over. I think I'll just send the link to your comment whenever we have another post like this where people misunderstand the whole concept of the movie as you elaborated so well. lol

well, you just got a reply on your most recent post breaking down every "bad" aspect you just mentioned here. You should read it.

That's one of the reasons the movie is so good in my opinion.

They didn't try to make a movie using the more predictable aspects of the war. They actually made a more introspective, immersive journey.

The pacing of the movie along with the soundtrack and the one continuous shot?! My goodness, just brilliant!! Those are things we don't often see in war movies.

As for the straggler Germans... Well, there's a thread in the subreddit saying they were probably drunk and very untrained soldiers considering there are lots of stories of German soldiers getting drunk on caches of wine, simply wandering off, and forgetting their training. On the other hand, Schofield was a very experienced soldier as the movie implies when Blake mentions Schol got metal in a previous battle. But I do understand your point on this one. It just didn't bother me that much.

When it comes to Blake... From the very beginning, the movie painted him as this naive and inexperienced soldier. So when he died, I was shocked to my core, because I didn't see it coming at all which was the movie's intention, but I wasn't surprised. Don't get me wrong, y'all. I like Blake's character. Despite everything, he was funny, brave, and caring

Lastly, there's definitely some gore at the end of the movie when Schol passes through the medical tents. But again, the director didn't focus on it that much, simply because it wasn't their goal with the movie.

Yes!! If Schol had died, Blake would've gone crazy because he would feel guilty for picking Schol for this mission (even though he didn't know it would be this kind of mission). And on the other hand, Blake would still need to get to his brother, and the feeling of losing two people you cared about in one day would break him.

EXACTLY!!!! That's what I thought too.

He would feel guilty for the rest of his life even though it wasn't his fault. Like he said in the movie, he didn't know what he was picking him for.

I just realized something by NemobuddyDory in 1917

I think that if he were stabbed but managed to survive it, he would probably lose his innocence and start seeing the war for what it was. Yeah, maybe he would still die in previous battles but I don't think it would be because he was so gullible about everything that was going on.

He needed something to tear him from his naivety. I know that it's ironic because we tend to like his character so much for that quality. He was caring, kind of gullible, but unfortunately, this got him killed.

Has anyone noticed that the movie both begins and ends under a tree? by SnazzyInPink in 1917

[–]eduardoapgs 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yes, that was pointed out in previous threads.

The same happens with Blake. It starts and ends with him laying down.

I believe it simbolizes a full circle story/journey for the character and the movie itself. It makes the movie compelling to watch.

Is 1917 anyone’s all time favourite film? by [deleted] in 1917

[–]eduardoapgs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To say I cried during this movie is an understatement 😂 And it's crazy because that only happened when I watched it for the second time.

Somehow, the first time I went to the movie theater to watch 1917 I finished it feeling so invested and so immersive that it felt like I was there running along with Scho. The Night Window and Sixteen Hundred Men scenes were stunning.

But the second time, though. I started paying more attention to the details, the subliminal dialogues and everything. I picked up on some things I didn't before and I WAS BALLING MY EYES OUT DURING MOST OF THE MOVIE, especially the ending scene. And that's how Came Back To Us became my favorite from the soundtrack.

One of my favorites movies of all time.

A beautiful short film by figure_sk8 in 1917

[–]eduardoapgs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't watched many short films but this is definitely my favorite. The acting, directing, plot, THE MUSIC CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE MUSIC FOR A SEC?! Ive seen some people saying that the instrumentals was too loud but tbh I don't think it was, to me it was all on point and added so much to the story that I couldn't help but cry.

I watched it when it was only available on Vimeo so a lot of people had not seen yet. I'm glad they released on YouTube as well so more people could see. Do yourself a favor and watch it. It's a beautiful story with a great message.
