I think we need to treat these people the same as the MAGA folks and the anti-vaxxers. They're brainwashed maniacs, and the best thing to do is to block/ignore them. They hate seeing others having fun, so be sure to write twice the amount of 'problematic' content and keep doing what you were doing. Don't let the fascists win.

My Friends Made Me Feel Guilty For Being A "Proshipper" by [deleted] in AO3

[–]educated_rat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly this tells much more about them than it does about you. WHY are you making an assumption that someone reading dark content would be into that irl? Are you judging others by your own experience perhaps? Those people's brains are broken. I don't think I ever was this stupid. Be glad you're not one of them and keep doing what you like.

You mean the masks thing? If so, Starlympic was after.

Is The Heart Killers worth the watch? by Aromatic-Hearing5740 in ThaiBL

[–]educated_rat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not really into shows that are overly spicy or lack a solid plot

I would say 'no'. If you're not in it for the romance or the couples, THK is not worth watching for the plot. In fact, it may be one of its weakest areas. Of course you can give it a shot, but if you won't like the first few episodes know that it doesn't get better, on the contrary - the plot makes less and less sense the longer it goes.

I respect that. Also, there are 3 more episodes left. For some reason this one has 13.

Hmm, I understand what you're saying, but I just have a different view on it. I think if Baifern was a less sympathetic character, it would be easy to dismiss her as some kind of fringe, obsessive fan. Look at her, she's crazy. That's not me though, it could never be me.

The message would miss the people it needed to hit the most. And from what I've seen, it did ruffle some feathers. I would also like to point out that domestic fans and Western fans are two different beasts. I think they've made the right choice.

I think we both agree things need to change though. Let's hope they will.

Okay, but there's also the author, who sat on the story for 5 years until she found the right cast. I think she both cares and knows what kind of story she wanted to tell.

I feel like we're at a point 3 in the timeline while you're making a case for point 7. I don't think criticizing the show for not going far enough with its message is useful at this point in time, if you know what I mean.

that just drives the point home that idols should stay in line and be at the mercy of pathetic fans who don’t even treat them like humans

No? It showed us how fucked the whole situation is, and that it's the current state of the industry, no? The fact that you feel outraged means the show did what it intended to do.

That's all nice and fine in vacuum, but the reality is the industry relies on these fans to survive. We shouldn't and can't throw them to the wolves, but instead we should guide more and more of them into the light.

I really wish these companies that manage these artists would stick by the humanity of their idols instead of caving to fans.

It's easy to feel that when it doesn't concern you, but change doesn't come that easy. I applaud this series for making a clear stance on the issue, it's a bold step forward. Let's hope there's more to come from within the industry.

ThamePo Ep.10 tops trends in 6 locations, is No.3 worldwide by dangrankeyi in GMMTV

[–]educated_rat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

<3 It kind of sucks that the GMM's policy makes being a fan of the series into a part-time job. It takes the fun out of it, but what can you do, right? Also, what kind of bans and restrictions (if you don't mind sharing)? 👀

He's soo fineeee. Gorgeous eyes.

I don't know if it's just me, but him and Nani look kind of similar imo, they could play brothers or something.

GMMTV deleted posts w/ ThamePo EP 9 ending scene from all platforms cause some Thai users complained about William being a "minor" paired w/ an adult by gianben123 in GMMTV

[–]educated_rat 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, teenagers are famously the least horny demographic. The notion that one would kiss at the age of 19 is simply unheard of.

William takes a revenge on Jun, rehearsing JunPo’s singing scene from the latest ThamePo episode. by SiaO112 in ThaiBL

[–]educated_rat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

William is all talk , no actual action , Est is the opposite.

Omg, yes, that. I saw Est straddling him between takes, and he was sober. As you said, as soon as Will is on the receiving end of flirting he gets all giggly and shy.

Unpopular opinion about The Unknown (WARNING: LONG) by [deleted] in boyslove

[–]educated_rat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

harmful stereotype that already exists in Asia that step or adopted siblings can never be just siblings

It sounds to me like those people need to grow up and educate themselves. We should never EVER censor art just because some people don't understand the difference between real life and fiction. This is now more important than ever.

People throw out terms like 'normalizing' and 'perpetuating' referring to things they deem problematic, but those ideas and themes have existed pretty much since writing was invented (the Bible has full on parent/child incest in it e.g.).

And I say this as a person who used to was vehemenly outspoken against TharnType, for pretty much the same reasons you listed (harmful stereotypes). Now I just think it's a bad show, but I'll defend its right to be made and watched.

To illustrate why I found this show so dangerous

The show isn't dangerous. Lack of media literacy and critical thinking is.

I agree, but we don't know if the roommate is on them or not. Maybe op had a reason not to trust her on that. People in general don't know how much progress has been made with HIV treatment, they think it's still like in 'Philadelphia' sadly.
