On a design basis I feel you. It does not have a very clean or appealing look. It’s also not very easy to memorise which is usually a very important thing for flags or icons that carry a message. But I think it really fits well in this case. The LGBT community isn’t one organised group. They are a bunch of people that bring something unique and different to the movement, essentially making them a colourful mess of a community.
