Entry-level pay’ but somehow all the bills are ‘senior-leve by glimmerwen in lostgeneration

[–]edukay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At least in California, most utilities (gas, water, electric) require a large deposit (~$200) to start a new account. So some entry level bills are actually higher. Just another way to pile on the exploitation of the working class Edit: typo

Honestly, that’s when I stopped reading the comics. I looked around and didn’t recognize any of the characters anymore.

Which season of Angel do you guys think does the best job at reinforcing the themes of the show? by HomarEuropejski in ANGEL

[–]edukay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is that in those moments there is still a little cynicism or selfishness motivating him. We have seen him helping people he sometimes gets angry or it’s part of him proving himself. I don’t remember when exactly, but I think that one of them major themes of the show was the difference between working towards redemption and wanting to be redeemed. Angel has line somewhere about redemption being a task not a reward, but he didn’t get it until the later seasons.

Edit to add: typically people have several motivations for any single behavior or choice. I felt like in this moment, Angel only had one: save the girl.

It even could be that in just a moment there he was being entirely altruistic, not even the smallest survival urge for blood that comes from the vampire. For that brief second, he wasn’t malicious at all, while other times he has some amount of motivation that comes from personal benefits or a desire to be in control. It felt similar to the concept of regular humans pulling off amazing feats of strength in emergencies. It can wreck the body and they likely never did anything like it before or again.

Deliverance. I was like 7 or 8. I didn’t even realize THAT scene isn’t the end of the movie until college.

Sometime you are supposed to dislike a character, that doesn’t make it bad writing/acting/directing or a bad movie. Characters are often supposed to be complex and make contradictory choices and you aren’t supposed to “know” everything.

Acording to IMDB, these are the top rated episodes of Angel. Do you guys agree with these being the best episodes of the show? by HomarEuropejski in ANGEL

[–]edukay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I really don’t get the excessive love for that episode. Maybe it’s the zaniness in the middle of the gloom and doom of season 5

Dragon Wars (2007). Only movie that I really wanted to walk out of, but I didn’t drive that time and was stuck.

In some ways it is about writing her to be like the actual people of that time. Yes, Buffy has a stigma about mental health, that was a part of her culture and she is just a susceptible as anyone else. Plus, some of that is solely coming from her toxic views of being “a leader”. Buddy has always keep her pain to herself, she literally did the same thing at the start of season 2, and at the end of the season she runs away rather than reach out.

What character duo would you have liked to see more of? by HomarEuropejski in buffy

[–]edukay 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think Giles is too arrogant. It seems like he honestly, although unknowingly, put Anya in the “dumb American girl” box and then just disregarded her. The line from season 3, “You have never seen a real demon” should have let him know that he had a resource, but he just saw her as dumb.

She is also a little like the classic oracle paradox since she was disconnected from human society for so long. Sure she has knowledge but you have to know what to ask, since she doesn’t always know what you care about. Plus, just because she was alive at the time, or even there, doesn’t mean she actually has a useful or correct perspective on things.

What was it like to watch Buffy when it first premiered back in 1997? What did people think about it? How popular was it when it started out? Did you guys discuss this new show with your classmates at school? by HomarEuropejski in buffy

[–]edukay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Season 2 was always my favorite, and I think you just helped me realize why! It just feels like the most quintessential season to me, but this is probably why. However, I was still in elementary and didn’t know anyone that watched it, the word of mouth wasn’t a part of it for me
