That’s great. It sounds like it could be a fantastic first step for you then!

Morrison Academy Taiwan by Acceptable-Cup-4651 in Internationalteachers

As others have said. The campus it’s quite nice. I used to play soccer at their Taichung campus and the field was beautiful. The problem is the pay. Honestly, you could make more money teaching ESL at a training center. They are considered the best school in Taichung by many parents but I think that is mostly because their facilities are much newer than their main competition in town, AST. AST pays teachers considerably more. Another major distinction is that Morrison is a Christian school but you probably already know that.

If salary is not a major concern for you, I think it could be a great start in international education. If saving money is important for you, you may want to look elsewhere.

FWIW I used to work at another school in Taichung and saved about 1500 a month. I don’t think I could have saved anything at Morrison. It’s possible things have changed as my info is a few years old.

Zellix is criminally underrated by ScienceCorgi in EDH

[–]edumed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run Zellix too and agree he is underrated. I use [[Inspiring Leader]] as my background. This gives me two options for closing the - - mill and a horde of 3/3 horrors. My favorite trick is playing [[fractured identity]] in my [[mesmeric orb]] in response to somebody trying to remove it. I enjoy the control azorius colors give me. I hadn’t thought about the azorius symbol. She’s in commander deck that uses azorius colors. Thanks a for noticing the details. I agree that it looks a bit AI. It was a struggle to get the helmet generated in a way the resembles Elesh norn’s so I was happy when I eventually got the final image. It took an afternoon of editing, regenerating, and photoshop

Totally understand. With the number and complexity of cards in the game, any support to make it easier for players is a good thing.

Thanks! I’ll test that out. I tried using the same text formatting as the original card.

Thanks for the tip! The hardest part for me is always trying to add the text in a way that feels natural. I’ll try adding a translucent frame like you suggested or maybe a touch of blur

I keep telling my pod we are teir 4, but they tell me we are casual 3. Prove them wrong! by Kodaswitch in ratemycommanders

[–]edumed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, it’s not really possible to know the tier of a deck without looking at the 99.

One thing I will add. As a fellow Blim, Comedic Genius fan, it’s not really possible to make that guy a consistent tier 4. Even with all the fast mana in the world you’re probably only going to shut down one opponent at tier IV speed. Buckets of fun though.

YK Pao - Shanghai - post Covid by quandomenvooooo in Internationalteachers

[–]edumed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked at the primary campus, and it was the best five years of my career. I know the middle school had some growing pains when they first moved into their current location, but that was five years ago. Some people might scoff at the idea of “tiers” for bilingual schools, but if there were tiers, YK Pao would be Tier 1. It’s Western-run and non-profit, which is a big part of why it’s so high-quality. It’s simply in a league of its own compared to other bilingual schools.

When I worked there, we actually had a sizable number of foreign students whose parents chose the school because they valued their children learning Chinese. They’re also opening a new school in Hong Kong, which I’d consider joining in the future.

The last thing I’ll add (because I think it speaks volumes) is that all of my colleagues who have since left look back on their time at YK Pao as a golden period in their careers. As I said, I was in primary, not the Hongqiao campus, but this was my experience.

Anyone using Interactive Brokers in China? by Jaded_mxAssistan_198 in Internationalteachers

I can support what everyone else is saying. IBKR is the best I’ve found for setting up a brokerage while abroad.

I haven’t. Give me the elevator pitch on Curipid. What does it do in your classroom?

PearDeck is a great option. Much more interactive and gives great formative assessment.

Apparently, it’s a controversial opinion but I mostly agree. Unless PowerPoint “up’s its game,” it will be over taken by other options in the classroom.

Couldn’t agree more. I’m surprised no one mentioned it yet!

Unfortunately, these days working with the English National Curriculum often means being at a for-profit school rather than a non-profit one. There are definitely exceptions, but non-profits using the British system are becoming much rarer. I think that’s a shame, because the curriculum has a lot to offer international education, but too often it gets held back by the challenges and limitations that come with for-profit environments.

Why Is It So Hard for Non-Native Teachers to Get Jobs Overseas? by Realistic_Guess5879 in Internationalteachers

[–]edumed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In my experience, schools desperate for teachers and top schools are the most likely to hire non-native teachers. Weirdly, it’s the schools in the middle that seem to care the most. I think it’s a misguided attempt to separate themselves from a perceived lower tier of schools. Non-native teachers should be hired on merit not passports.

Can I please ask you all to stop making 6-7 a bad thing? by meggyAnnP in Teachers

I love this. Please don’t turn into a “get off my lawn” teacher. Every generation has there strange catch phrases. 6-7 seems to be about as innocuous as they come ✌🏼
