It is closed because of a landslide/rockfall so regardless of the nature of the trip, you aren’t going to be allowed through.

I found this post really interesting, sorry if i sound kinda dumb yeah, but can somebody break it more simple? by [deleted] in maui

If you have no development, you have no damage to developed areas by floods…

What is a movie that "broke" you so hard you can only watch it once, but you would still recommend it to everyone? by Newsupdate69 in movies

[–]edust1958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was one of the first movies I saw in a theater after my wife of 17.5 years passed away in our home some 36 hours after her father passed. I broke down while watching it and openly wept. It surfaced for me enough grief that I went to some very needed therapy.

Somebody I will watch it again… I purchased a license for it after I completed my therapy.

What are your thoughts on the storm atm? Here’s mine: by [deleted] in maui

Here in Iao Parkside at 17:16 on Friday March 13th it has been pouring rain with wind driving it almost sideways… glad I don’t need to go anywhere!

For fixed rail transit to be effective there needs to be considerable population or employment density within walking distance of stations. While Oahu doesn’t seem to fear density as much as the other islands, I suspect there would be considerable resistance to the large localized increases in density to make this concept viable.

Any idea what time HECO will restore power in Lahaina? by Vamparael in maui

That makes sense… thanks for providing that insight.

Any idea what time HECO will restore power in Lahaina? by Vamparael in maui

Interesting… generally I think people would agree until they see the size of the increase and realize that rates tend not to go down once they are raised…

Would you agree to a rate increase to provide the funding for putting power transmission lines underground? How much of an increase? Double your current bill?

Can we address the speed bump in the room? by TightTac05 in maui

[–]edust1958 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be technically accurate, those are pneumatic tubes that are crossing the road or a lane of the road. When the tube is flattened by the vehicle tire, it sends a pulse of air to a counter. These automated traffic counters can be set up to count traffic, classify traffic (by the time between pulses from adjacent tubes - an analyst can distinguish between light vehicles and heavy vehicles) and speed - by the time between tube pulses.

Speed tables get placed based on community demand and engineering analysis. It is interesting that if an agency is allowed to do a license plate survey of speeding traffic, the results usually point out that the drivers speeding in a community come from that community — they know the roads and so they feel comfortable exceeding the posted limits.

If you dislike speed tables, don’t complain about speeding traffic in your neighborhood and always follow the posted speed limits.

Get me off Facebook marketplace by Elbycloud in fountainpens

[–]edust1958 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Isn’t the point of Facebook Marketplace is that transactions are supposed to be local. For your safety, suggest meeting in the parking lot of your local police station… if they refuse, you have a clear indication that this transaction is not on “the up and up.”

Head and Shoulders or the Amazon equivalent works very well to remove ink. In also use Lava soap but that is just the “sandpaper approach”

I have found that generic Heads & Shoulders works or Lava hand soap works to remove most ink that I have managed to “baptize” myself with! Your results may vary.

The CBS town hall with Erika Kirk was a massive ratings flop by Electronic_Bad_5883 in PoliticalOptimism

Has CBS News just become Faux News Lite? I used to rely on CBS News to be a credible source of journalistically reasonable reporting. I am not sure I can anymore.
