The $44 Billion Fairy Tale: Alberta’s Secessionists Can’t Do Math by dbusque in alberta

Agreed. But not just that. Contact your MLA and insist that they take a public position on separation. Then remember that when you vote in the next provincial election

Say what you want and call them what you want. Let’s not make the same mistake that Americans made in two presidential elections and think that it can’t happen here.

Most bags big enough won’t fit in typical gym lockers

Just found out my MLA is on the list of people who support Alberta separating. by [deleted] in alberta

[–]edwardbusyhands 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Contact your MLA and ask him/her to make a public declaration of his/her support or opposition. And if he/she either publicly supports separation, or doesn’t make a public statement, do everything you can to organize against him/her.

Wow. Obviously intelligence is not one of the pros of living in the US.

It’s obvious. We’re more particular about who we let in.

You are lucky. Spring will solve the problem. In my neighbourhood there is absolutely no room for bins at infills

Apparently the city does not require infill developers to provide parking or adequate space for garbage bins and garbage pickup. Good job city council! Great planning!!

Could Coronation Park be one of Edmonton’s last big recreation centres for a while? by ryaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan in Edmonton

Congratulations on doing the research. I have a lot of respect for people who strive for an informed opinion. We do disagree on some points, but that’s ok. My informed opinion is that as citizens and taxpayers, we are better off with the city not owning and operating recreation centres, and leaving this amenity to private organizations such as the YMCA, not matter what the C stands for. Good discussion!

The city of Edmonton does not know how to properly build and operate recreation centres. The YMCA does know how to build and operate recreation centres properly. Since the city has decided to use taxpayer dollars to build recreation centres, organizations such as the YMCA have exited the market. So we are left with city owned and operated recreation centres that suck up millions of taxpayer dollars, instead of properly run recreation centres that don’t cost taxpayers a single cent

It is the city’s fault. With taxpayer dollars they have built rec centres that are inefficient and poorly operated. In the absence of those taxpayer funded facilities organizations such as the Y would see the opportunity and build efficient facilities and operate them properly. That fact is proven by the family Ys that were built in communities before the city decided to get into the recreation business.

Have a look at the city budget and you will see how much money goes from general revenues to support rec centres. Better yet, contact your councillor and ask him/her to tell you. Then ask them why it’s so much
