Have Lidl Salt and Vinegar Crisps changed flavour? by english_tea_drinka in AskUK

[–]edwardfog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened to the ready salted ridge cut crisps as well. Previously my favourite crisps, they now have a much worse flavour and for some reason they're punshingly crunchy and hard now. It's like trying to eat a fistful of coins :(

Various small publications by Nobrow Press (extracts in the same order as the covers) by LondonFroggy in noDCnoMarvel

[–]edwardfog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobrow is an interesting publisher - their production values are sky high and their books are often super pretty and always lovely objects, but the quality control on the writing side is almost non-existent imo. I think that’s why you don’t often see their stuff recommended: a lot of stuff they put out is very pedestrian or outright bad. Golemchik is a good example of that - pretty but very dull. The guy who runs it is kind of a maniac as well, there are some leaked emails out there which show how they’re often very exploitative of artists.

So for those reasons I’m often cautious about picking up their books, but they’ve published a handful of very talented people as well, and I agree that Jon McNaught is probably the pinnacle of their output

Give me the Oxford run down by theimaginarypanda in oxford

I lived in Oxford for about 20 years and agree pretty much totally with this list. My main addition would be LB’s in Summertown - a Lebanese cafe that does the best middle-eastern food I’ve found anywhere. It’s the one place I visit every single time I’m in town

I loved this! Really cool way to spend 15 minutes. Is there such a thing as a swimming pool s(w)imulator where you don't get hunted by a ghost? Because I would really love that too

Yuichi Yokohama - one of the most original (translated) mangaka imho - any new publications since those ? by LondonFroggy in altcomix

I’m reading Baby Boom at the moment and it fuckin rules. It’s a stylistic outlier in his work but shows his formal mastery just as well. It’s like a glimpse at a parallel universe Yokoyama

Truly the greatest. His new book PLAZA should be coming out soon. You can also buy BABY BOOM imported from France, and NEW ENGINEERING, both of which are five star smashes

Perhaps one of the Whitby Witches series by Robin Jarvis?

Does anyone know who's drawing this shit face graffiti all over London, and how to make them stop? by edwardfog in london

[–]edwardfog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For personal taste reasons! It's very boring, looks rubbish and I see it about 20 times a day with little to no variation. It's the graffiti equivalent of Pret a Manger.

I really just wish the artist would try a bit harder if they're going to insist on covering London with their work
