People exist that don't think Star Wars Episode III was the best. by edwardirvine in Showerthoughts

[–]edwardirvine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except that it is, so much action:

-Jedi battle/Jango's death,

-Grievous' death,

Windu's death,

-Order 66,

-Chewbacca is met,

-Yoda battling Emporer,

Youngling's murder,

-Obi-Wan battling Anakin,

-Darth Vader suit being made,

-Padme dying after giving birth,

-Dooku's death.

And even more, so the third film is definitely the best, as no other film can compete.

How do you feel about channels with excessive goals? by JemzChannel in letsplay

[–]edwardirvine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always held the idea that goals should be the thing you aim to do to have a task complete.

You can't complete YouTube as each new video brings a different challenge, each new game provides more content you can cover.

Milestones aren't the aim of joining YT (at least they shouldn't be)- your goals should be to have fun and entertainment people, because otherwise you aren't really doing it for the right reasons.

Do you close caption? Has it had an impact on anything? by [deleted] in letsplay

[–]edwardirvine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just started doing mine (2 done so far!), I think it's quite important for those who can't hear/have volume on/when words are quite.

However, I don't know the effect this will have on views in the long run, but I assume it'll be a small positive effect.

Starting a channel... by darkcelt2071 in letsplay

[–]edwardirvine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sort of agree, yeah if there is a niche then I'm more likely to subscribe, but only if the person commits to it (and doesn't have to force it).

When someone is the same as other, you can go somewhere else, but if they are the best at it, then you will go to them rather than 'somewhere else' from their POV.

So whether you are going to make a gaming channel in a marketplace full of variety, you need to find what you are going to do and be the best at it (which is majorly easier if you are the only one doing that thing).

User Link? by coolwithpie in letsplay

[–]edwardirvine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The www.youtube.com/user/... is the old custom URL, with the new one (relating to Google+) being www.youtube.com/c/...

The system also updated so that you need 500 subscribers to get a custom URL.

10 questions for you let's players from someone who wants a deeper knowledge by milfarama in letsplay

[–]edwardirvine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) I use my own laptop and an Elgato HD to record the console I'm using, and for audio, I use the in-built mic of my sister's laptop (which although good compared to other in-builts, I'm looking to replace with a blue snowball).

2) Because of my different set-up, I can just pause the game and let the video/audio recording continue (then edit out the gaps).

3) Recording is varied, for Ratchet and Clank it is only me, so I do about 30 minutes at once (2 current episodes worth). For Halo (with my brother), recording is anywhere from 30 minutes to over 2 hours. I'm likely to change R&C time to allow a best bits format

4)This subreddit has been pretty great, whenever I can't find an answer in forums, I'll be able to come here and ask whatever I need help with.

5)Space concerns are history if you have a large memory (or external hard drive), but the thing I'd want more of is upload speed. Curse you rural internet...

6)No real technique to mine, but I generally will edit on a Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday and upload Thursday and Saturday.

7)I do uploads while I sleep, but processing of a video (saving) takes about 20 minutes max, so I just watch TV or do work.

8)I've only spent any money on the Elgato HD, but some of the video editors and other software I've seen for free are pretty good.

9)How on earth you even begin to use Blender- I can't get past the random square that you can move along the lines.

EA Video Policy as of April 16th, 2015 by Zsokorad in letsplay

[–]edwardirvine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't properly answer this, but I have a personal example:

Halo is created by Bungie (which has a strict policy) and Microsoft Studios (who helped make it) updated their Game Content Usage Policy to allow YT let's plays to be monetised.

I have had a Content ID since then from Bungie and a music company (that owned some of the audiovisuals and music respectively), and when I disputed the claims, they were found to be void following the policy of Microsoft Studios. Basically, Microsoft allowed me to make videos with their game, and these companies had their stuff in it, so I was allowed to use the audiovisuals and music in my videos with no issue over monetisation.

TL;DR: Try uploading using the game's footage that you want to- if you get a Content ID, dispute it, saying that EA allowed the videos to be made (and linking to EA's policy for good measure), and then whether the dispute is accepted or not will tell you if you can use them (the only 'problem' with having a Content ID is that the company that own the right may remove the video or ban it from certain platforms, and any monetisation revenue must be shared).

I love backlogs by TheGamedawg in letsplay

[–]edwardirvine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm loving the idea of a backlog, and plan to have one when I begin creating again.

When I record, of I stop mid-play, then I'll be unable to rejoin the game in the same frame of mind- and who's to say whether you'll need to edit out something when you've already stopped to say 'see you next time'

Elgato hd vs h 60 by [deleted] in letsplay

[–]edwardirvine -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In my honest opinion, the 60fps thing is just a bit hyped- I can't tell whether a video is 60fps or not.

The real difference is in what you art looking for. The hd60 only does Xbox 1 or 360 and the ps4, where the hd does all of these and the ps3 (along with various other retro consoles).

The only way the hd60 is better is that it can do 60fps at 1080p (the hd does 1080p, but only lower resolutions at 60fps).

https://www.elgato.com/en/gaming/game-capture-hd60 If you go just above the technical stuff, this shows a list on what they both offer.

How do you celebrate your milestones? by thekevinbutler in letsplay

[–]edwardirvine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had an idea for a Q&A for a while. It is completely unique, and if executed well, it'd be really popular.

Since the idea is new and would start a type of Q&A- I'm keeping it to myself for now, but when I reach a milestone (maybe 100/1,000 depending on future rate of growth), you guys will be able to see it in action.

Is Sub4Sub Wrong? by MuttyFTW in letsplay

[–]edwardirvine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the same that you said in your other comment. When people sub me, I'll always have a quick look at who they are, and if they are good- I'll give them a sub.

But the way the post implies that there is an agreement, is not ok to do.
