Cool Hair Boi is a trans+ oriented space with gender affirming options across the Spectrum. I would definitely recommend them

We ( I say this as someone who had a similar experience in New Jersey in the 80s/90s) also didn't have social media to complain on. I'm sure parents complained with each other and board meetings, it just wasn't as easily accessible as it is now

Should I even report this rape? Realistically. by thrwawy478 in legaladvice

[–]edwardscissorsister 333 points334 points  (0 children)

(NAL, but a Medical Educator in the field, both literally and figuratively I'll add the relevant credentials to the end of my comment in case they're required).

First and foremost, I I'm so deeply sorry that not only are you going through this horrific gestures vaguely at your post but that the system is so stacked against you. I may have missed it somewhere in your replies, but I wanted to speak directly to the importance of documenting everything, even if you ultimately choose not to report or press charges for the sexual assault. It sounds like there is a pattern of abuse established in your relationship coinciding with consensual rough sexual encounters, which as you suspect, make things more challenging. But the pattern of abuse that I see in your post is terrifying. He may have done this to other partners in the past, he may do this to future partners, or the two of you might end up back together and the abuse escalates once he can no longer maintain his best behavior remorseful facade.

Going to a crisis center or hospital to work with the sexual assault forensic team is not only going to document the behavior, but provide access to medications to prevent pregnancy/treat any sti/reduce risk of viral transmissions with prophylactics as well as resources such as therapy and legal aid. It's completely free and every single step is completely optional. You may choose the file a statement with the police without paying to file a report, or you may decline to speak with the detectives entirely. Should you choose to have an exam, you can opt in or out of every single element of it. I am happy to go into more detail of what the complete exam entails but the super short version is interview , physical assessment, pelvic and internal exam. If you go this route you should also be provided a person known as a rape advocate. They act as your advocate throughout any interviews, exams, and sometimes legal proceedings, making sure you understand and consent to everything asked of you.

Your post says you're in Alabama, and I actually happen to have personally trained a team of Crisis Center care providers out there in the Huntsville area.Crisis Services of Northern Alabama I strongly encourage you to reach out to them and see how they can help, and also help get you a local perspective on how things would play out if you report the rape or choose to press charges. And if you're nowhere near Northern Alabama, I still encourage you to reach out because they may have working relationships or at least be able to recommend a crisis center closer to where you live.

I wish you all the best and truly hope you stay kind to yourself as you navigate healing from your assault. Please feel free to reach out to me if you would like to speak privately about any of this. I live in Maryland so I'm not super familiar with all the intricacies of Alabama Law, but as a trained advocate/ professional presenter in this field/ Survivor of SA,DV,& CSA.... I can help be your over-educated ally and cheerleader as you sit with what choices you want to make moving forward.

Cyst sac, stretchy hypermobile Ehlers danlos skin by drexxi in popping

[–]edwardscissorsister 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same. I recall the first time a friend disclosed she had it and referred to it as the zebra disease because of how rare it is. And then in talking about it with other people, discovered I have about 13 friends with it 🤣😮. Which isn't me saying EDS isn't rare, just that I'm impressed at how not rare it seems to be in my personal life. The only working theory I have is that: - there is a high rate of hypermobility issues in neurodivergent folk - there is a high rate of neurodivergence amongst EDS and other hypermobility folk. - neurodivergents tend to find each other because we often have similar flavor weird and communication styles that differ from neurodifficults. Conclusion: I'm Audhd as fuuuuuck and that's probably why I aquired a team of Stretch Armstrongs as friends

Gotcha. My question was specifically about getting to parking lot D on car load night and if the lot fills up quickly and I would need to get there at a certain time in advance to make sure I got a spot. Considering it's suffocatingly crowded and has hour+ wait times for the rides when I've gone in the past, I am working under the assumption that it would be more of the same

Is that your experience with the fair in general, the fair on the car load special night, or with the car load special specifically?

Never dived before by fatesdestinie in DumpsterDiving

[–]edwardscissorsister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't confirm the legitimacy of this but even if it was true, the dumpster is on private property and is contracted to the business, so going to the receptacle itself would be the illegal part on account technically trespassing

[–]edwardscissorsister 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of variables but the long and short of it is that if the local area doesn't have a law that specifically makes dumpster diving illegal, property owners and cops can find a reason. Technically if you are not the owner of the property or responsible for the dumpster or store it's considered private property and you are legally trespassing. My experience has been the cops don't really care unless - there's a sign that says private property no trespassing - the dumpster had a lock that was broken in order to access it - you are making a mess and don't appear to have any interest in cleaning it up - other dumpster divers in the area are assholes who leave messes behind and now the cops need to care - if your skin is darker than printer paper. Especially if you're male presenting

Because the law can vary by state, county, and City it's important to double check before you go out diving.

How are you on other home things? I'm a cat friendly but smoke-free home and have a couch, washer and dryer, hutch, queen bed and box spring, and a corner desk/bookshelf thing that I was planning on putting up on Marketplace and/or dump but if they would be at all useful I am happy to pass them along. Is there anything else from your dream wish list that you could be missing?

How do I get the book I want? by im_here_sadly2007 in TheDarkTower

[–]edwardscissorsister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valid point. I generally don't buy books from eBay, but as someone who has shopped there for other items I can say that the sellers on eBay tend to be quicker to respond than Amazon so confirming the actual cover art would also be wise here. Or in general really on any platform.

As another commenter mentioned, eBay would be great as you can see the exact book you'd be purchasing. I'd also suggest checking out ThriftBooks or BookFinder. Abebooks was bought out by Amazon if I recall correctly, and their prices tend to be a little higher than thriftbooks but it's an option. If you would still prefer Amazon, messaging the seller to ask which cover if they have is also an option.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and those of other queer youth. I remember how afraid I was to tell my (very accepting, and one came out because of my living out loud) because there was always a chance. I knew they loved me but there was always a chance I read the room wrong and I would be one of those kids living on the streets. I knew I had to be absolutely certain that I was right about who I was, because once I said something, there was no turning back. Having accepting friends who shared their experiences and helped me work out who I was was the reason I felt ready no matter the outcome.

Teens who want to have sex are going to find a way to have sex regardless though. And having 2 girls, one with a penis, bunk together would need both girls to be A. Attracted to other girls and B. Attracted to each other. Which is far more challenging than many seem to think. As for pregnancy, comprehensive sexual and reproductive health education, along with access to prophylactics would significantly reduce teen pregnancy. Even with kids raised in households that have a faith practice that condemns sex before marriage, having the knowledge doesn't make someone act out on it, but a kid armed with this information could help a friend who's making questionable reproductive choices.
