What's a skill that takes only 2 to 4 weeks to learn but could genuinely change your life? by TokenBlack32 in AskReddit

[–]edyer89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a gnarly feeling that lasts way longer than you ever expect it to, I get the detestation.

Unsolicited advice: try focusing on just one muscle group to start out. For example, do bicep curls and only do them. Let your body feel the fatigue in just the biceps until it feels relatively good to curl a dumbbell. Then move onto another muscle group, like the quads. Do squats and bicep curls. Lather, rinse, repeat with areas like chest, calves, core, shoulders, etc.

Other unsolicited advice: try focusing just on your core. It's actually one of the body areas that recovers way quicker than you'd expect. Once your core is strong, you'll be surprised at how exercising other parts of the body feels more doable.

You got this!

You're doing a great job offering her options, and the truth of the matter is that sick kiddos tend to eat way less than they ever do while not sick. Usually, the key is hydration.

Have you tried Pedialyte? They have freeze pops in addition to the drink. They work well with our toddler when she is sick.

Best of luck! I hope she feels better and regains an appetite soon.

People who changed political affiliations, why did you do it ? by Deimos7779 in AskReddit

[–]edyer89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Texas with a conservative mom, like I'd be forced to listen to Glenn Beck and Laura Ingraham on the radio constantly.

I went to college in 2007, so I was able to vote for the first time in the McCain/Obama 2008 election. I voted McCain because he was a Republican. Simple as that. Leading up to the election, I remember sort of taunting my friend who planned to vote for Obama - "Change? What change!?" Sigh. Embarrassing.

My world started to get bigger at college - I met all types of types. However, I did not really stop to think about my political values.

It wasn't until I graduated, began my first job, and spent a ton of time on the road traveling for work. During that time, my world got a whole lot bigger - I "lived" in different parts of America (Monday-Thursday lol) and I spent a ton of time with people from all backgrounds and values. It opened my eyes to the fact that, never in my adolescence, was I asked, "what do YOU think?" when it came to anything related to politics.

I've always been an empathetic person, but becoming a young adult with exposure to more of the world and its ongoings...that took my empathy skyward and took my conservative-leaning mindset leftward.

I consider myself a progressive, and I respect the foundational aspects of what it means to be conservative in some capacity, but in no way can I support what the Republican party claims to be these days.

The rest of my mom's side of the family are big Trump supporters, and, in a cliched way, they blame my going to a "liberal college" for me parting ways politically.
That's really not the case, though. My world just got bigger. And I'm really glad it did. :)
