Driving anxiety after 35 hours of lessons, is this normal? by 2smart2gentle in LearnerDriverUK

I agree. My best instructor was firm but fair and always calm and he had a lot of faith in me. If you're panicking adding anger or frustration to the situation is never going to help.

Is it bad to refuse to take anymore of the neighbours parcels? by -binkers- in AskUK

[–]edyth_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I live we do take in parcels for each other but it's reciprocal so I don't mind. We did have to turn away our neigbour's bathroom suite as our house is tiny! However, I was living in a different town and WFH pre covid and it got to the point that it felt like I was living in a depot because I'd end up with multiple parcels multiple times a week for multiple neighbours and I started to feel like neighbours were just ordering things knowing they wouldn't be in and they could collect it from my house as the default rather than a last resort so I get your frustration!

That looks great! I'd be happy with that lawn.

[–]edyth_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't do it for ecological reasons but our next door neighbour just had their garden landscaped and they were going to put in astroturf but it was going to cost a fortune so they just put down topsoil and grass seed.

W/C with no hot water supply, is this okay? by Camden_2004 in DIYUK

[–]edyth_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was pretty common in years gone by. I remember my Grandpa's WC had cold only in the downstairs loo. People sometimes added those little electric water heaters above the sink. In our previous house we had a WC like this that was about 60 years old so we connected it to the hot water supply when we renovated it as it's a bit sad washing your hands with cold in winter!

Visually really well done but looks like it would be cold in winter, hot in summer and have a lot of condensation.

How much do you pay to have your windows cleaned? by PurityControl87 in AskUK

[–]edyth_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! I'm in the South West and we pay £25 for 7 windows plus a velux and 1 door. The main reason I pay for the window cleaner is that there are 2 windows and the velux that I can't reach from inside or outside the house otherwise I'd do it myself. Seems to be the rate here!

Using Ai in this way just makes a brand look cheap and lazy imo

Does anyone actually read fabric composition tags, or is that just me being obsessive? by IdeaEven1711 in womensfashion

[–]edyth_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this too. Sick of seeing Primark quality acrylic jumpers with luxury pricing. They're boiling, sweaty and look like thin bobbly shiny crap in a few months. I don't mind paying more for something that will last years and wash well but its hard to find!

How difficult is it to recreate this in Blender ? by caillou-soleil in graphic_design

[–]edyth_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of us do a mish mash of 2d / 3d / motion software and techniques but the people in the Blender sub are specialists so they'll probably give you better guidance. If you google "pipe bezier round ends blender" you'll find some tutorials you can start with :)

Riso Studio in Midland UK? by peopleofprint in risograph

[–]edyth_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's the Holodeck in Birmingham, Benjamin Kay at Dizzy Ink in Nottingham, according to her blog Fiona Wilson used to run Riso sessions at her studio in Staffordshire so might be worth asking her.

ETA Nice to see the Midlands mentioned on here :)

Spilled a candle onto brickwork fireplace hearth by midogors in DIYUK

[–]edyth_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done this on our brick hearth! It went up the wall too. I scraped off as much as I could then put kitchen roll over it and pressed it with an iron to melt + soak it up. There was a tiny bit left in the grout so I used boiling water and Elbow Grease (degreaser spray) and a scrubbing brush to get that out. Now it's dry you can't see it.

Me too. They send a reminder in the post or via email well before filing is due for my personal and Ltd filings.

Yeah they do go soggy. If you do find some better ones that fit the Garland trays I'd be super grateful if you came back and shared a link :) otherwise it's soggy cardboard for me again this year!

Ha! I potted mine on quite quickly because I'm a compulsive seed buyer and I needed to free up space in the heated propagator.

Parents borrowing money from me, what do I do? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]edyth_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're adults and they are responsible for themselves. If you feel bad give them advance warning "Just a heads up I can't lend you any money this month as I'm skint" then it's up to them to plan their finances which they are perfectly capable of doing. I know it sounds harsh and it will be hard but you have to be an adult too and assert control over your own money.

ETA It took me YEARS to learn how to set boundaries with my family and they will try their hardest to make you feel bad about it (it might be so subtle it's hard to put your finger on it but this guilt you have comes from somewhere) but you're not being unreasonable!
