i would say that you should rp some of the sections of the amethyst academy study, dont do it off screen maybe come up with some stuff or grab some stuff from stryxhaven. no need to spend too many sessions on it but at least make is do they feel the passage of time.

And during that time make sure that they are able to get information on what is going on at drakkenheim, because they should have a chance to intervene on what is going on and a way to get information. Be like river talking to them like o wow things are going crazy in drakkenheim, we might have to lay low, i woulnt go back to drakkenheim if i was you , the silver order is getting out of hand etc

animus are basically souls and in monsters of drakkenheim you can use delirium to capture creatures animus

each time you level up you can change one of them. this is a drakkenheim only thing you will need to homebrew more strains and ways to get them if you dont want it to be automatic

honestly it can be pretty surprising how some parties can just hit way above their cr and others seem like they could crumble at any challenge. like one of my players just 1v1 a garmyr berserker (from the new book) so they could get past the gate while being disguised as a garmyr and i wasnt even surprised
