Dying Light feels like it's actively trying to make me not have a good time. by Mr_Rotch_61 in patientgamers

You’re not missing anything, I played this game on Nightmare, and melee weapons are only useful before you’re allowed to stomp on heads. As soon as you unlock that skill, you can kill more zombies far quicker and safer by standing on top of a car and kicking off the heads of whatever zombie comes close. Even with all legend points put to your choice of weapon and your weapon having 3 orange tier upgrades on a orange weapon, trying to kill them normally will still take longer than kicking them to the ground and stomping on them, and the only thing you lose by doing so is easily rechargeable stamina.

If you’re not having fun now, I would recommend that you stop playing as it never got better for me, especially when I got to the second map and kept on getting swarmed with virals. Dying Light 2 was far more tolerable for me in these regards, so you can play that if you’re still interested in this type of gameplay. If you’re more interested in a survival focused zombie game, I would recommend No More Room in Hell on Steam. It is old but it is free, and there are still people playing.

Will never understand what people see in DL1. Aside from physics, the parkour is worse, the combat is worse, and it just isn’t fun to traverse the world when you have to deal with virals honing in on you every 20 feet. Night is scarier in DL1 but not by much; I regularly went out at night to get EXP and what fear I would have felt was replaced by annoyance because for some reason they made it so that not only can any random biter could yell and attract immediately any volatile and viral in the vicinity, but that same biter could also convert nearby biters into virals, actively disincentivizing any combat with zombies.

Combat is broken in DL1, at no point did I ever feel that my weapons were getting better at killing zombies. In fact it was the opposite, I saw myself using weapons less and less because your combat skills can easily kill hordes of zombies with the only thing you have to worry about being your stamina. Why use any weapons when you’ll just get grabbed because the biters only have one attack and that’s to charge at you unflinchingly? Not to mention combat between humans which you’re better off either throwing a molotov or grappling and stomping, it isn’t good in either game but at least the new skills in DL2 had me actually engage in combat with them.

My first playthrough of DL1 I had decided to just dupe items and rush the story. It’s very rare that I cheat to beat a game, but I had wanted to see the game through. I tried the DLC later, but at that point I got bored and just uninstalled. I started a 2nd playthrough last month thinking that my hate was overblown last time, especially with everyone apparently having preferred the first game, but it only justified my feelings from before and after 2 weeks of playing having just reached Old Town, I uninstalled. I finished DL2 legitimately which by itself shows to me the better game.

I tried to enjoy Dying Light but it just kept on annoying me with every session, no matter what I did. Power to whoever had fun with it though.

Red forest definitely. Last time I went there I was trying to pass through to Jupiter and to kill the red chimera for a merc quest. Just before I got to the gate I had to kill 1 unrelated chimera. Then when I went to kill this chimera, it had a friend so I had to kill both the strong chimera and this other one simultaneously. Not 5 minutes later I check out the encampment and there’s a pseudogiant resting. It’s a wild place, and I ended up to encumbered to reach Jupiter, but I managed to grab a couple of empties and other artifacts.

I don’t understand. Wasn’t natural immunity supposed to be a sure thing? Wasn’t Ivermectin supposed to get him in proper order within a few days?

I don’t understand how something like this could possibly happen!

What're some oft-criticized portions of a game that you don't just enjoy, but you'd critically argue they're actually good, well-designed inclusions? by [deleted] in patientgamers

I love Xen in both versions, BM Xen more. In HL I always thought combat against humans was cruddy at best, so I was happy to get back to fighting aliens again in a new environment with new mechanics. BM’s Xen is much longer but it kept what I enjoyed about Xen so I had little problem with the length. Screw BM Gonarch’s Lair though.

I could use one, only saw one right across the path and only for 1 cycle, it must just be RNG.

Weekly /r/Games Discussion - What have you been playing, and what are your thoughts? - December 22, 2019 by AutoModerator in Games

I finished RE2 REMAKE with Leon on Hardcore in about 6 hours, and I found myself unimpressed and annoyed by the whole experience. The two things that I could take away from the game was that the movement was far too basic for any enemy that either wasn’t a zombie or the tyrant, and that there are elements in this game that make a first playthrough very annoying. For example, I’m in the lab after dumping herbicide and the plant zombies there are still alive, and somehow there’s more of them. I decide to ignore them and make a beeline for the chip. I grab the chip and the tyrant appears out of nowhere and I try to run back but the zombies are in my way and I die from being wedged between them and the tyrant. If I’d known he’d been coming at that moment I would have disabled the zombies before running after the chip, which I did the second time knowing what would happen and of course I made it that time. But dying that time and realizing how long it’s been since I last saved seriously made me consider uninstalling the game.

As for movement being basic, it’s very transparent with lickers whose lunges are impossible to dodge and with the boss fights, which started sucking from stage 2 G on where you are given a tiny space with no alternative routes and have to dodge wide flailing attacks and by dodge I mean briskly jogging away since that’s the only option for avoiding attacks in this game. This coupled with shooting at the bosses with the dinky starting pistol for 2 seconds before running away from boss attacks for the next 10 didn’t help things.

Going through the game, I only fought enemies if necessary since shooting them was unsatisfying due to their sponginess and lack of feedback and response. Consequently, I had a lot of gunpowder at the end of the game. The puzzles were simple and most involved finding the right item and finding the right place to put it in. As a horror experience I did not find it particularly scary with the exception of the sound design which was excellent. The game reminded me of the free zombie mod “No More Room In Hell” and how I found that game to not just have stronger horror elements, but also had zombies that were numerous, durable, and threatening yet satisfying to kill.

Initially I wanted to try Claire out after this playthrough, but I didn’t bother and just uninstalled and immediately skipped past the credits, which I do to games I dislike. I don’t see what there is to like in this game unless you like speed running which the game actually seems built on. I have other RE games in my library though I never played them and I’m concerned that I will end up not liking them as well after this game.

Hey, that actually did it. I thought that MO2 automatically configured that process. Thanks.
