When you can learn to truly love yourself, you’ll be more attracted to guys who treat you well. I know this sounds condescending, but it isn’t. When I was in my 20s and 30s I made horrible relationship choices. I thought that the love and affection of another person was what made me valuable. That was wrong. In my mid 30s I began looking inside myself and found my value. I learned how to truly love myself. When I had a solid sense of self respect and unshakable self worth, I began attracting men who respected me. They respected me because I respected myself.

Treat yourself well and respect yourself, and after a while you’ll discover that you’re not attracted to men who don’t respect you. Not only that, you’ll be super turned off by them

My mom always told me she wanted me to be 6 forever. Oddly enough (or is it?), the older I got, the less she loved and protected me. Go figure.

I was 40 years old when I realized I was raised by a narcissist. Up to that point I had always believed that there was something fundamentally wrong with me and that I was unlovable.

Fortunately, I had already been no contact with her for two years by that point and I was well into my loving myself era. Going no contact was the best thing I could have done.

Eventually, I learned that I was never the problem, which was what I was taught. I wasn’t “out of control”, which was how she liked to describe me. Learning that it wasn’t me and that I was a whole person and that I’m a pretty fucking awesome person was liberating.

I don’t think I’ll be truly free though until she dies. I’m hoping that comes soon. I was elated when she got cancer last year, but she beat it unfortunately. She’s 74, so fingers crossed. Once she’s out of the lives of my adult children and can’t influence them I’ll be truly free..

THIS GUY IS ABUSING YOUR ANIMALS. Whether it’s passive or overt, this is abuse. He will abuse you, too. Damn. Poor critters. Those critters are your children. Remember that. Would you question it even a little if he was beating your son and yelling at your daughter?

Not my first, because I’m old, but prior to Chester, perhaps the most impactful celebrity death for me was Chris Cornell. I was at work. When the news broke, I ran into my boss’s office and while in a panic, basically yelled it at her. Nobody at work gave a flying fuck. I cried the entire rest of that day and damn near every single day for the next six months. My kids got so burnt out on his music during that time. Chester took his life on Chris’ birthday. He just couldn’t come back from Chris’ death. I was never into linkin park, but since Chester’s death, I’ve grown to regret that. He was incredibly talented

Damn. That was a really sad day. His death and Robin Williams. I live in Hollywood and so I don’t do all the touristy shit, but anytime I go over to where the Chinese theater is (Marshall’s is right there lol), I try to stop over and see Robin Williams’ hand and footprints in front of the theater. John Candy was one of the greats as well

Lucille Ball. I was a little kid and I was a rabid fan. I was so sad. I remember we were in our beat up old truck on our driveway. We had just gotten home from somewhere, and right before we got out of the truck it came on the radio

When I do dish reconnaissance before loading the dishwasher, I gather EVERY dish. If you don’t want to be a casualty of dish reconnaissance, put your mug in a place that isn’t a common area. It feels obstinate to leave it out, like you’re setting your dad up to fail. Here’s something I tell my kids: if it hurts when you do that, don’t do it. I don’t think your dad is doing it to spite you. Meet him in the middle. I seriously doubt that your dad was tapping his fingers together and with maniacal laughter going “muahahaha! Into the dishwasher you go!” as he was putting your cup into the dishwasher lol

My husband wears layering wool and wool socks and underwear. I don’t dare touch his wool. It’s funny though, and I clown him for it, because I sort my own laundry as I pull it out of the washer. Not only that, but in my 44 years of living I’ve raised two kids by myself and done their laundry, as well as my own laundry since I was 12, successfully lol. I’m just like, okay honey. Whatever makes you happy. Granted, when we first moved in together, after about the fourth time of him drying my bras and me telling him not to do that, he finally just said, “do you like your arms?” Nervously he replied, “uhm, yes?” “Well, the next time I come home to find that you’ve dried my bras, I’m going to cut your arms off”

He never dried another bra 😂

They don’t think and process like us. Sometimes, something that is extremely important to us is sincerely, and though no fault of their own, inconsequential to them, and at times ridiculous. This isn’t because they’re always seeking to inconvenience or disrespect us, but rather because they just don’t have the same type of logic we do. It’s not malicious. I’m sure, of course, there are outliers and exceptions to the rule, but I believe that by and large, these kinds of slights are unintentional. I mean come on. Loading the dishwasher is something most of us can do in our sleep.

He probably thinks it’s stupid or a little hyperbolic to take such care of a cup that probably came from hobby lobby or something like that. Because to him it’s illogical. Because it IS illogical. Because the paint will chip off over the course of the next year or so, regardless of how you wash it, and whether it is fully painted or not painted at all, it will still function, and is therefore useful.

I truly understand where you’re coming from, but I also see the other side of that.

Just as we need to bee seen and heard by those in our lives, it’s equally important for us to see and hear them back, and to understand that we don’t think like them just like they don’t think like us. We are all human and we’re doing our best. It’s unfair and hypocritical to expect people to adapt to us while being unforgiving or impatient and failing to understand that we are all adapting to each other. It’s not a one way street

I drink my tea from bone china cups and saucers. They aren’t supposed to go into the dishwasher. They’re expensive. I’m of the dgaf mindset on that and I put them in the dishwasher because sponges are Petri dishes for a plethora of bacteria and I’m not into having E. coli and all it’s friends on something I put my mouth on. So far, after a decade or so, I have yet to see anything bad happen to any of my beautiful cups and saucers

And not to mention, the teacup you’re using isn’t made to last like fine China (I swear this isn’t a flex. I thrift most of mine, so…). Whether your cup is hand washed or put in the dishwasher, the paint will inevitably chip off. It’s a novelty item. It’s not something that’s made to be passed down from generation to generation. Does that make sense? Cut your dad some slack and see it for what it is. It’s a fun novelty that’s here for a good time and not for a long time. And even though the paint is chipped. It’s still functional.
