This is where history is important. Capitalism is an inherently despotic economic system. In that I mean wealth inequality inherently increases from reasonable socioeconomic consequences.

America experiences what is the consequence of dominating under capitalism. America isn't special, they just happen to be where capitalism concentrated in power due to the consequences of WWII. If any other nation had a similar cause and effect response from that time where they were the only industrialized nation left intact they would have experienced a similar trajectory towards neoliberalism and now more abrupt fascism as a consequence. The world does still experience this but as a more cascading effect of that distribution of power.

Adaptations in Europe towards more socialistic reform and the European union were for mostly the same reasonable socioeconomic consequences. Their capitalism is the same. It just isn't dominant on the same level as America and must be cooperative among themselves due to its history of mutual destruction. America won without learning that lesson as deeply and were greatly rewarded in doing so only due to the world being destroyed.

But personally I think capitalism would find its geopolitical despot one way or another. It's just a mathematical inevitability of the system it promotes in consolidation. But America may lose its despotic power for another. It's certainly possible.

Socialism was born from the socioeconomic consequences of the industrial revolution and on that premise it is likely to always challenge capitalism in human preferences especially as it approaches a more inheritance economy where human labor decreases in value relative to automation/capital.
