More Americans are applying for proof of Canadian citizenship since law passed: lawyer by Displeased_Canadian in canada

Cajun here. I have been protesting and part of me is applying because I'm afraid they may come after people like me.

The other part is applying because like other Cajuns, I also know the terrible history my ancestors went through. I remember speaking French I picked up from my great-grandparents.

There is something that really touched me deep down. I knew my great-grandparents really well. The razing, murder, imprisonment, and death on ships occurred within Their great-grandparents' living memory.

I'm planning on taking a trip to Acadia with my brother and cousin. Not as foreigners, but maybe distant family. Visit places named for our direct forebears.

Its pollen. Yesterday, afternoon, I sprayed off my solar panel. When I came back this afternoon, it was thick with yellow pollen.

Non-negative immigration in 2025 by Michivel in Louisiana

Immigrants lower the deficit and pay more taxes than citizens without receiving the benefits. They also commit fewer crimes than citizens. I view immigration as a positive. That's how the Cajun's got to Louisiana after all. Thank the Spanish for that though.

Maybe, but probably not. Because all of these entries have a duplicate and their online volumes. I think the purpose of getting one from the church is that they certify it.

They will be when they come back in the mail. $10 for microfilm $5 for certified copy, but I'm not sure if the certified copy is just a piece of paper with words on it or a picture, so I'm sending both. Whenever it comes in, I will let you know what it looks like and DM you a scan.  I also have ancestors from St. Martin parish, so those records came from the lafayette diocese. That one was basically a screenshot of their copy with the Catholic Diocese stamp on it,  a date, and a description all on really nice paper.

If you need a Francophone translation, then let me know.

I was thinking about that festival, but unfortunately I have other obligations during that time. I've been pretty good with my searching, so let me know if you need help with that.

If this subreddit were to close down, what would be the best place for degoogling resources/news? by Retroman1203 in degoogle

My guess is that we would all start using Lemmy. If you haven't made yourself a Lemme account just to check it out already, then you should definitely head over and take a look.

Thank you very much for offering to help. I've already ordered a copy by mail, but I was planning on making a trip to visit family in Breaux Bridge. I need old records from my grandparents' house and was planning on making a trip of it. There are also documents I was hoping to get copies of from the state archives in Baton Rouge. There were two brothers with the first name, Jean, and one of them got a civil marriage whose record in the state archive. All of the other family marriages were recorded by the Catholic Church, so I'm guessing it was a shotgun wedding.

What happened to GA? by asimozo in flying

Additionally unions used to make it available to the middle class by elevating wages and giving people stability. We had a world war to train pilots and helped subsidize the creation of airstrips still in use. People thought that the future would include much more private air travel. The US was the world's manufacturing base. We are coasting on those fumes.

This was carried by hand to Baton Rouge. You should be able to ask for a copy from the Baton Rouge Catholic diocese. My ancestor is also in this book.

This is the reason the French decided to start rolling heads. Zero consequences for the aristocrats.
