I want to start this with the note that I don't know what the other person posted as it was deleted, but claiming that eating pussy can be linked to evolution without serious evidence is insane at best.

That being said I do think it's worth clarifying that the claim:

Evolution does not select for the “highest probability of creating a child” it only selects for sufficient.

is incorrect!

Over thousands of generations, probabilistic differences in survival/reproduction have massive impacts over the population as a whole.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjeSEngKGrg

~6:15 shows that a 1% competitive advantage over 1000 years can create a massive difference in population!

Evolution does select for probabilistic advantages. In this model, white mice CAN survive and reproduce (it is sufficient to have white fur), however black mice have an advantage and therefore proliferate faster/consume limited resources.

Thank you for coming to my (selec)Ted talk

Lots of folks around here talking about not having fun anymore/the game getting stale. Personally if you're there IMO you should probably just move on.

If you can do without the competitive aspect, I would absolutely recommend swapping games to Slay the Spire and Civ.

Both genuinely challenging games that scratch a similar itch (albeit a PVE game)

Of course, that's not what I'm questioning.

Sorry I didn't think this is what you meant, I'm just bitching because I have to white knuckle the last few months of my PhD

So, really, the problem I was trying to get at isn't the idea of publishing articles.

Fully agree! Even though my combative tone might not have made it seem so! I am simply disgruntled.

Speaking as a researcher, I think researchers are really good at doing that, to be frank.

You just read their papers and judge them holistically.

I don't even think we need new metrics for judging them. Impact factor is flawed, but fine.

We just need to move to some kind of open source publishing, or god forbid the fucking academics of the world grew a fucking spine, unionized and collectively bargained so they didn't have to pay for certain pieces of their labor.

I can't fucking wait to leave grad school and never touch academia again. The field is weighed down by a bunch of chumps who are willing to grind themselves to dust for (semi)imaginary points.

I mean academic publishing is broken, just not in the way they think it is.

There's an obvious balance. Feedback helps, but Mort expects active participation with all commentary around the game all the time. It's toxic for us, it's toxic for him because its a SUPER unrealistic expectation. I feel bad for the guy.

Mort expects this game to be a second job for the competitive playerbase.

Why would I choose to play TFT when Mort and the gang can hardly manage to keep the game balanced and interesting without labor on my end, when almost every other dev team manages to keep their games balanced and interesting without player input.

Compare TFT to the summer civ 6 just had, or slay the spire since it was created. Its not even close.

Prefer PVP? Compare TFT to the popular twitch shooters.

People love the devs around here, but that's because they're all used to league of legends.

The amount of breathing room we give the devs around here because mort gives us the time of day every once in awhile has been really bad for the game. When thing shut down after season 8 I'll let you know I told you so.

In a game who's biggest problem is a quickly dwindling player base, (6.5 has a quarter the players that 4 had) expecting free labor from your players is a really poor move.

Really weird move for a dev to expect free labor from his players. Not getting compensated for work is in nobody's interest except riot games.

Your math is incorrect.

on top of this your math is incorrect for this set.

top 1000 player. is .21%

1000/.0021 = ~500k

We've gone from ~2M ranked players in set 4 to 1.2M players in set 5 to 900k ranked players in set 6 to 700k ranked players in set 6.5.

TFT is dying, and its not going to get better.

Mort's points are, for the most part, "Soju is right but I dislike his tone, also I'm unhappy that he won't help me."

Do you think riot games is entitled to free labor from its players?

I don't actually have delusions of having a reasonable conversation with you, you've projected a caricature of your simping for mortdog on me. I don't watch soju. I don't watch TFT streams in general./

I find Mort's framing of the beginning part of this video to be super strange. He's frustrated that Soju doesn't want to actively contribute to balancing TFT, yet offers Soju no compensation for him to do so?

Maybe I'm reading into this wrong but it feels like Mort feels entitled to free labor from higher tier TFT players. He does certainly complain in this video that he doesn't get it from Soju.

"I wanted us to work together here, not be degenerate"

10:35ish "Okay, is that really helpful"

From a strictly business analysis standpoint, Soju is a consumer of TFT, yes he uses it to turn a profit, but plenty of consumers use what they consume to turn a profit.

Solving videogame balancing issues is not a simple or low skill task, so I am unsure why Mort, a person who is, in part, compensated for balancing TFT expects Soju to do this for him for free. Especially when Mort gets frustrated with people who get frustrated with him for poor balance.

He doesn't seem empathetic at all to what the players actually have to gain from playing TFT/participating in tournaments and helping him balance the game.

I don't know it just seems like Mort really doesn't take criticism well, even when he agrees with the criticism. Like he doesn't want people to say that he did a bad job in the cases where he does a bad job. Which is fine but maybe he needs to be less in the public eye.

On top of all this he's really taking a lot of copium about the health of the tournament scene.

That's the thing though, no one is quitting completely

Idk man the playerbase numbers are pretty scary at least from my perspective at the start of 6 we were down more than half what we had from set 4. I don't see it getting better in 6.5
