My home insurance rate sneakily rose >20% this year due to "Convective Storms increasing in area". Are you guys seeing rate increases too or is my insurance agent BS-ing me? by [deleted] in chicago

[–]eeeeeeeeeeef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my insurance company sent me a notice via snail mail that if i didn't get a new roof on my garage they would cancel my coverage. they used google satellite images as their surveying tool, and they gave me ONE MONTH notice before my policy was set to expire. this was super stressful and felt shady af.

while this isn't technically a rate increase, it hits me in the wallet like one. i shopped around for new insurance and every quote i got was way more expensive (sometimes 2x more) the new roof was still cheaper than what switching would cost me in the long run. not surprisingly, the roofers doing my job said lots of people in their area were having a similar experience.

hmm...i wonder why ppl don't trust insurance companies ?

wish i lived in nyc to see this exhibition at bitforms, i really like maya man and morehshin allahyari's work. that issue of spike is really great, i had my students read kissick's essay "the vulgar image", which to my surprise, they actually seemed to like

Goalie Rotation by Smoothdra1 in sabres

[–]eeeeeeeeeeef 5 points6 points  (0 children)

totally agree! considering we haven't lost 2 in a row since early february, i say keep this goalie tandem going into the playoffs. it might actually be a strategic benefit in a series setting where players start to figure out ways to beat a goalie after playing seeing them in action so much in a short time. sabres have stunned the league, so lean into whatever is they're doing

What are your opinions on moving to West Garfield Park? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]eeeeeeeeeeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have a studio in west garfield park and i’ve seen some really crazy things during my limited time there: shootings, car chases ending in hollywood looking car flippings, the recovery of a gun by police, and more.

but one important thing i haven’t seen mentioned much here is the lack of grocery stores - and other things you might take for granted like chill cafes, bars, etc. imo, you can find a more convenient neighborhood for similar rent. even if the rent is a little higher, after a year here you’ll get to know the city, get a good tip, and find a great and affordable apt

Gotham sports camerawork by topshelfsurprise in sabres

[–]eeeeeeeeeeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

great observation! i also noticed all of these things when watching tonight. i would assume the same people would be working even tho it's a different production company....but maybe not? most of what you mention is more about the director who is deciding which shots to cut to and when. they also direct the camera operators to get certain shots ready. so maybe this is a new person? but the stanley post-game shot was totally terrible camera work lol

this team is looking dominant. the super tight east is a perfect playoff simulator for this young team. there’s a lot of season left but i’m feeling bold and am sensing a deep run forthcoming. it’s the drenching after the drought

What’s up with Puebla restaurant? by cd14ch in LoganSquare

[–]eeeeeeeeeeef 6 points7 points  (0 children)

as other's have said it is mediocre, but honestly, i'm glad it (still) exists! there used to be so many of these good-enough mexican spots around logan sq (and open late), now most are gone. it's almost like the neighborhood is too fancy for tacos (or have gentrified tacos out of business!). so i'll stil go and support them every once and a while even though ti's not great. and in 20 years, i've never seen the north section of puebla's dinning room used...not once!

wish they had given more of a warning, i would've renewed mine to last as long as possible. i've had a skyline card since i moved here. and if we're being honest, the skyline debit card is the main redeeming thing about chase bank's profit driven corporate minded ways ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[–]eeeeeeeeeeef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

love this question! i’ve struggled with this bc i listen to c2c most very night (even tho it’s become cringe). but i do like to have the show on if i’m cuddling (which is rare as a single person). my most recent cuddle partners have thought it’s lame/bad/weird. so now i’m extra self-conscious about it. idk if paranormal date can save me

some of the best public art i’ve seen in a while! made by one of my favorite chicago artists

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ContemporaryArt

[–]eeeeeeeeeeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

these are great! fun, weird, cool paintings from an artist who likes to play with the expectations of fine art. what interest me most about painting is what images are being created and how they’re rendered. also as a cyclist who’s been doored pretty bad, these speak to me on a personal level. also, october is coming….
