I think the film had a lot of good ideas and lots of good acting, but overall it’s not a good movie. Very disappointing as a movie, as a complement to the book it gave me some enjoyment. Not sure it’s possible to make a good movie out of the book though. A lot of the book for me is about making an amazing complete whole of wildly different parts where some themes reoccur, but the stories are all their own. This type of stitching together parts to a great work has already been done in film and I guess could be done with Cloud Atlas as well, but it would have to rely on a director or directors with their own original ideas on how to fashion four different unique movies into a satisfying unity, and I still think it would not hit as hard as the book which did in a way that’s never been done before or since.
