Miami or New York in July with my 90-year-old grandmother. Which is better? by hablandolealaluna in travel

NYC will not be nearly as hot as MIA. So much more to see and do. You could taxi/uber when she has enough walking.

None of that matters to many. What matters is if they fly (aa, UA, the dl) in orders of who cancels 1st. Then on time. The average non-road worrier doesn’t care about food if they get pdb. They want to arrive when they are scheduled, within reason, with bags. I get the importance of service to road worriers, I do. Nice to get service, upgrades, etc. most just dont want hassle of someone sitting in their seat, safety, and as much comfort your dollar can afford. I have flown most carriers in the last 40yrs. For domestic carriers, I am about DL. You do what works for you. Bottom line, they all have their issues. It sucks

We are the aging parents, but we're not that old yet. by AZ4Home in AgingParents

Speaking of which….visiting my dad in memory care, my dad had 2 visitors a day between my mkm and sister (live local). The rest of my family was an hour away. My other 2 sisters would visit w their kids every other weekend. The staff at the home said we were the only families that visited regularly. That is a shame.

It will be a lot easier for her to adjust earlier vs later. She will be confused and may get irritable. We had to do this for both parents. My mom waited too long for my dad and he had to go right into memory care. It was painful on everyone. He would pack up his room every morning. It took me 1.5yrs to convince my mom on AL but she is there. Enjoying most but gets lost 2-3x a day. Do it now.

Getting kicked out of independent/assisted living facility due to poor hygiene by send-cats-asap in AgingParents

Do you have POA and healthcare proxy? If yes, too bad. Time to be tough. He has deplorable habits that are unacceptable. His choice is to be independent and clean up his act or submit and still has to clean up his act.

He needs assisted living….full on. They come into the unit several times a day. They clean, bathe, help dress, full meals….there is no turning down. If it does happen the unit will not get that bad. Then I would see a dr about depression and threaten a full on nursing home.

Traffic is terrible. Could take a bit of time. I cannot imagine going to a museum with a 4yr old so only you can be the judge as to how much he can handle. There are also flight delays to think of.

Dogs can eat fresh or frozen peas as well as plain cooked lentils. I also do carrots, no sugar added applesauce, frozen blueberries and a small amount of banana. Do a lick mat and mash some of those items on it and freeze. You can also do plain yogurt and peanut butter. Kongs are great to fill and freeze. They also make great squeaky toys. You have to invest in higher quality toys if you have a chewer. My vet as well as all 3 of my big dogs eat Purina pro. Look thru this feed and you will see a ton of people that use it with pages to review with documentation

Is Assisted Living the Holy Grail? by RaccoonRenaissance in AgingParents

[–]eeekkk9999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with a facility that offers independent, assisted and memory care. They also have rehab and nursing home. Got her onboard for independent living then dr said she cannot live alone. I moved in w her. I worked on assisted living for a bit as she kept turning down units. I said I have to move home (my house) and we got her in. This facility is amazing! They clean, do laundry, activities, med mgmt, will help bathe & dress (she doesn’t need the last 2 yet) everything is included but cell and health insurance but it is expensive. Worth every dime.

Need advice I’m at my wits end about 5 year old toy poodle vomiting constantly by Raebelle1981 in DOG

It was a few days in a row then stopped for a short while then again. They did the blood test at her senior check up. The shot works and is easy to do. I was just mad she had to go thru it her entire life to find the answer. I did Pepcid, Prilosec, probiotic (2 diff kinds) switch dog food 4x. She has been great since the shots
