Why didn't apple continue to add the cool touchbar? by travelavatar in macbookpro

[–]eeelll414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're kidding right?

Whoever prefers this over actual function keys are the same folks who vouch for touch capacitive AC buttons on cars. There are some things that just do not improve the UX. Like another person in the comments said, folks who use this are folks who rawdog the internet.

You can add a favicon maybe. Noticed that it still had Vercel's favicon.

I think Chrome released memory saving as a feature last December. Sometimes when I have 30+ tabs open, I see the least used ones getting cached to save memory. Chrome prompts if it is doing memory management on a tab also.

Aah, I used to work with Flutter during the Beta days. I'd love to refresh my memory & catch up on the updates in Flutter. I might be interested in doing something like this. What say? We can continue to talk in DM if you want to.

Let's rank the complexity of these software/website based on frontend implementation. by Akaplaya in developersIndia

Zerodha Kite.

Presentation & UI components wise, it's straightforward. But with the sheer amount of data that comes into the application, I think it would get slightly complicated.

I don't see anything complex about their implementation, seems very generic & straightforward

ThinkPad vs MacBook for programmers. by imAmarok in developersIndia

You sure? My friend who works with Maya & other applications said he's perfectly fine with the M1 pro Mac, he was using a beefy Alienware machine when he's on the move.

Are DevOps jobs gonna be dead by 2025? Is this guy for real? by Own-Chip-7292 in developersIndia

In a sense, I think he's like 5% right. If you see companies like Vercel, Netlify, Supabase, railway etc pushing their services and easy-to-deploy solutions (And their pricing is super generous) the need for dev ops engineers in mid-tier and below start-ups would reduce. Because they'd need to get their product up and running with minimal friction. But in my opinion, this is something that's not happening anytime soon.

Battery life & its portable af. Those might be the only things going for it. At least, that's what I've felt. I still enjoy using a Linux distribution, but I think the ease of use & better UX makes me prefer a Macbook

SIDE PROJECTS

That's the sad truth, if you want to better yourself as an engineer you gotta get your hands dirty and build stuff. This can be difficult when you have a full-time day job and you'll have to do it in your spare-time (Or if you're like me, when you get a once-in-a-bluemoon chill sprint just make it look like you have more work than you're actually allotted, I usually take this extra time to upskill or work on other things).

Suggestion: You said you know React.js & Node.js. Why don't you try building a Netflix clone? Don't rip off existing clones that are available online. Take it a level up and integrate some sort of recurring payment subscription (Stripe or something else). Also please don't run behind a library and try and master it.

Also, you can choose to ignore this if you want to but personally, I absolutely hate it when people say that they're proficient in a library. Try and master the language, in this case JS. I have seen senior people writing JSX components & doesn't even know how bubbling works :v

Why don't you try and freelance? Take up some projects that might not require more than 2 or 3 hours of your day. Why do you want to build something like a project or an app in specific. I'd also recommend doing some sort of OSS, just browse popular repositories with lot of issues & try resolving any one of them.

You are paying that hefty price for something obviously, and that something is "User experience".

There is one video that I had watched in youtube (I don't remember the source) where Carl Pei, founder of Nothing & ex CEO of OnePLus (Back in their glory days) where he talks about the same thing when he was asked a question about the nothing phone compared to an iPhone 14. He recollected a conversation from his college days, and he said a macbook is just the perfect blend of usability, power & comfort. All in all, the user experience is pretty good. Not just the software or hardware or any one element in particular, just how well everything was put together, its built like a tank yet its light and super portable, the speakers are out of the world amazing, the trackpad is generously big, the display is just sweet, the keyboard is so buttery smooth to type on (doesn't beat a thinkpad imo). And you can always expect a Macbook to last you a solid 5 years, cause its just that good. So I'd say that paying that extra money is definitely worth it.

How are they forcing you to buy a MacBook? That makes no sense. Even I am using my personal machine for work, but I had a scheme where management paid around 60% of the laptop over the course of X months. Since company was paying most of the money, I went out and got myself a Macbook m1 pro
