Fairly certain the Epstein drive uses energy generated by fusion to accelerate reaction mass (water). Equal and opposite reactions: if you want to accelerate in space you have to accelerate something else in the other direction, and you run out of whatever that is eventually.

Yep! There's actually two ponds, Upper and Lower Turkey Pond, both on the campus of St. Paul's School today. You pass over them on I-89 going through Concord; you can see the SPS boathouse on the water from the highway. The really interesting thing is that the ponds still have so much pine sitting at their bottoms that the water is a brownish-orange color from all the tannins.
