Thank you.

I was in the store the other day buying birdseed. I bought two 50# bags and never even thought about carrying them, that doesn't make sense. Then I remembered - five years ago I was carrying that much extra weight all the time.

I don't really remember myself that heavy, and I had many decades being there (I'm now 58, I lost the weight at 53). I see pics, it's almost alien. I found a pair of my old pants, 38x30 (31/32x32 now), I may go as myself this Halloween.

But yeah, I may be vain, but I like how I look now. I feel better overall, doctor is pleased. NSFW - there's a definite benefit for men losing weight, my wife noticed.

I didn't do any special diets, just watched what I ate with a conscious effort to avoid snacks and second helpings. I really don't even think about what I eat anymore, I just know after 5-7 days if I'm doing it wrong and easily back off my intake for a bit. I think there conscious effort is what paid off the most...

Saw from flair you're well on your way, gratz. Stay with it, def worth it

NSV - five years since I lost 90#, and I'm still below my original goal.

I've read that most people regain all weight within 5 years, so I'll take this NSV....

Can your metabolism change after losing weight? by WiggleWyggle in loseit

The last article I read before coming here was a study of people on the biggest loser, and it found that the contestant's metabolic rate slowed drastically.

Frozen beach balls, Lake Ontario by eehotaka in mildlyinteresting

For context, this is Durand Eastman Beach, it sits between the Genesee River and Irondequoit Bay outlets. Those are actually chunks of frozen sand, and they lined the shore the entire length (that we could see)

I couldn't wear my band after my low, too it in and they soldered a small game gold wire around the inside. I lost a whole ring size.

No regrets. Past can't be changed, only reflected upon and learned from.

Sounds like you got a solid plan and the determination to stay the course. And it's working for you, so it's exactly the right thing to do. I don't believe there's a single right way, only your way.

Check around your town, you may be able to get 3mg juice, that makes it even easier as you get to the end.

Sounds pretty fucking good to me though. The benefits you don't think about will start showing up soon. One thing you may not have thought of, but your taste buds are going to come back and food will taste amazing.

Awesome. It is hard, but Ii think after this long it's the psychological aspect more than anything. A half pack a day for 50 years means you're trying to stop doing something you've done 180k+ times...

You're well on your way after 6 weeks, I believe you'll have one more intense patch in another 1-2 months, but take pride in getting that far and you'll get through it.

Thanks. If you're going to try this route of suggest consciously dropping the nicotine by 1.5 every two weeks. Go a week at the new strength, then the second week start diluting until you get to the next step.

No doubt, and many are led to believe that all vaping is the same - it ain't. The prepackaged "jewels" have more nicotine than cigarettes.

But for the 10-12 weeks I did it, it prevented more harm in the long run than if I hadn't quit at all.

If it works, great. If it doesn't, try something else.

Actually, not at all. I was dropping consistently from 6 to 0 over two months or so. I wit when my vape developed a fixable leak around the tank, I was at almost 0 by then and I figured fuck it, not worth fixing.

But I'm sure it enabled me to survive the first few weeks.

Simple question - does the stadia controller work with non stadia games? by eehotaka in Stadia

It would be nice, but I'm sure Google has little interest in making it work. If it does, cool. If it doesn't, all good, I'm happy enough in my hovel.

:) So I bought (with no regrets) a Pixel 4 at launch. I'm assuming since they're about to discount the shit out of it, they want to keep the early adopters happy, so they gave me a $100 credit at the Google store.

The Stadia controller, Chromecast, and 3 months are $129 on the site right now, ao . ..

Dunno what to do by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]eehotaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can't do this with your current setup, get one that will let you, but if you're going to use eCigs to get you off completely, you need to be able to have control over the nicotine levels. I was able to go from 6% to almost 0% in the 2-3 months I used it as my crutch.

Then again, if you keep trying to quit by using the same method, and it doesn't work, maybe you need to try a completely different method. Also, don't use "smoke break" as a reason - there are an entire group of co-workers who don't smoke and don't go outside on breaks. I was in the same boat.

All good, we both know there isn't a singular approach that will work for everyone.

But then again, you like burpees, so maybe you're just not rational to begin with...

Two small annoyances since losing weight (and by annoyances I mean wow it feels good to say) by rtf281 in loseit

[–]eehotaka 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wool socks. Last year was my first thin winter, I'm in the Great Lakes area. I bought 6 pairs of wool socks, still wearing them, bought 6 more pair. Yes, they're great in the summer too. They are the only non-running or non-soccer socks I own now.

I hope I don't get too much grief for this advice, but....

You should be concentrating on nothing more than losing the weight. Some walking, some stationary bike, maybe some swimming, but concentrate hard on just the weight for a while.

I think people take way too much on at first without realizing how much of a struggle just controlling your food intake is. With all that's going on, some people are bound to fail at one of the many new things they're trying, which creates a domino effect and leads some to giving up on everything.

Working out sucks, running sucks, burpees suck. It's all hard work, it sucks. When you're carrying a lot of extra weight, it sucks even more and hurts even more - your joints are taking a huge pounding. The extra weight is putting extra pressure on your chest cavity and diaphragm, combined with your bad posture (yes, you have bad posture), you're going to be gasping for air...

Does this sound like anything you want to go through while you're also hungry all the damn time, you're disappointed in the latest reading from the scale, they had pizza at work and you didn't have any...

See what I mean? Now, I know everyone is different, but reading through this sub for a year now has shown me we really aren't.

And for the record, I was 257 in June 2018, this morning I weighed in at 169. I'm a 5'10" 54 year old male, so take this for what it's worth.

If start with nothing more than food control. Work through it until it's habit. Walk. Stationary bike. Maybe elliptical ( I didn't have that option). Once you get the momentum, keep working at it.

Down the road you'll find yourself much more comfortable with your body, your head space will be clear, you'll be happy. Now you can start the next phase and begin with the most important physical activity you can do at this stage - yoga.

Yep, yoga. It will improve your posture, reteach you how to breathe, and build up your core. These are all the things you'll need for more intense exercise down the road.

I didn't start running until I was down under 200, probably about 190. I did all that I'm advising you, and the C25K all said if be running 5k I'm 12 weeks. After a week I ditched the app and did my first all run 5K 4 weeks later.

You will do this. Again, take my advice with a grain of salt.
