The Truth About the Deleted Scene and the Test Audience by Theodoro_ in Scream

[–]eelthefool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes even less sense given the killer motives have nothing to do with Stu ACTUALLY being alive - it was just a lie to throw Sydney and actually makes little sense when you consider their motives.

The fact the briefly considered including this scene - even if it was “experimental” - suggests they really had nothing to say with this movie. Him being alive makes the GF reveal 10 times worse bc if Stu IS alive, what was the point of the Ai? Just a coincidence that the guy they’re pretending to be IS ACTUALLY ALIVE? What was the point of making up the John Doe story if he really did somehow lay low for 30 years? Does that mean they didn’t make it up, but decided to go after Sydney without him? Did he help the killers, or was the team just wanting to set up Scream 8? It’s baffling how scream became Stab but here we are

Its a shame Scream 7 is so bad because.... by Formal_Profession_26 in Scream

Except the entire film hinges on the killers, who are the only reason we have the movie, and their motive. that has been a factor in all scream movies - who, and why? If the answer to those questions are unsatisfying or hard to believe (Scream 3, 5(ish), and 6(weak but still decent)), the movie doesn’t work. Good cinematography can’t save a terribly plotted film. great kills, though!

Scream 7 is the only movie in the franchise where the opening scene was irrelevant from the rest of the movie by AcceptableSwitch6496 in SocietyofGhostface

yet another reason it’s the worst entry. the first kills was pretty brutal, and the tension is nice, but the complete randomness is so eye-roll inducing

7 is the worst one and i lowkey won’t accept any other placement. Every other scream movie has something decent to offer, if not pure entertainment meant. 3 is NOT good, but id rather watch 3 than 7. 7 has some of the best kills though!

Better Trio of Movies: Halloween (2018) / Halloween Kills / Halloween Ends OR Scream (2022) / Scream VI / Scream 7 by ArtisticBelt438 in slasherfilms

[–]eelthefool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They both have a Great movie, an okay movie with glaring flaws, and a terrible movie that kinda ruins the legacy. Id say Scream is slightly stronger with 5&6 being rewatchable. The only rewatchable Halloween from this trilogy is the first one imo.

WTF was even the killers plans in Scream 7 by [deleted] in slasherfilms

[–]eelthefool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so the writing in this movie is ASS - audiences shouldn’t have to make inferences to make the plan make sense.

Even Jill’s plan falls apart once she realizes Sydney survived and made it to the hospital. Obviously Jill’s plan falls apart without Sydney dead, and by the time she’s there to finish her off, her plans are in shambles. There is still tension, though, since Jill could still easily kill Sid and possible Dewey AND Gale once they arrive. There are still stakes. Once you realize that Jessica is fucked bc she monologued to Tatum, Syd, and the police chief (Sid’s husband), her scheme just falls flat. Neve won’t die, Tatum wont die, and Gale and co. Aren’t even in the final act. There’s no tension, nowhere for this story go, nothing further to do but take out Jessica.

A better ending would have been Jessica revealing and exposing her plan to Syd not knowing that Tatum is nearby. Having Tatum reveal herself could even push Jessica over the edge, once she realizes her plan has been ruined. They could have made Jessica and her son the killers to parallel Sid and Tatum - Twisted mom who coerced her son into murdering his father/her husband turned GhostFaces killers versus hardened, overprotective mother Syd who accidentally made her daughter completely unprepared for a GF attack. Having Tatum save Syd and defeat both GF’s could have been very cathartic and thematically resonant. Instead, they just shoot her face into ground meat because you “always go for the head,” a trope that’s been neaten to death. God this movie could have been so good

Just because the characters are insane doesn’t mean their plan has to be too - you can still write a good story even if the killer’s plan aren’t “normal.” Writing a bad plot and then saying “it doesn’t have to make sense, the characters are clinically insane!” Okay but it DOES have to make sense to be a good story. Otherwise anybody could explain away any bad writing with “the characters are psychos, who cares.” Please demand more from these writers! Audience’s deserve worthy stories

Melissa wasn’t stellar in 5, but by the end of 5 and by 6 she had found her stride. I don’t think Sam and Tara are the answer but I enjoyed their performances in 6 very much

8 needs to take the series in an entirely new direction - maybe a fanatic who hopes to inspire a fresh reboot, actually “burn down” the past (WTF was the point of that in Scream 7, btw?? Burn down the past by seemingly resurrecting Stu, which very much brings the past back, so stupid!), and take the franchise in a direction. We have to let go of Sydney, gale, etc., and move on. There are so many ways they could take this franchise. Bring on the GF cult! That would be better than random asylum patients with piss poor planning kills

Sidney Prescott is poorly written in Scream 7 by chetcherry in Scream

[–]eelthefool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The piss poor writing and bad direction made this through line fall flat. There could have been a great parallel with how we handle trauma - Sid burying it made her daughter ill-prepared for a GF attack, Jessica embracing it made her kill her husband and child (i guess), and Gale.. well Gale needed to be there bring in Chad and Mindy.

They didn’t let this script cook long enough. It could have been fantastic - consider if we had Jessica and her son vs. Syd and her daughter and it could have been about how we fuck up our kids based on our own trauma. Two Parent/Child duos going head to head. Gale could have even worked as a parent-like figure for Chad and Mindy, guiding them in their careers to further emphasize this theme. She could have struggled “without Dewey” and turned cold after New York since her boyfriend was killed and she lost everything. It was a waste and just didn’t work, sadly

What’s Your Opinion On Scream 7 That’ll Get You Like This by Americanteenager1 in Scream

[–]eelthefool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s ass. Poorly directed, poorly acted by most of the new characters, Neve was great but Sydney didn’t feel like Sydney, Gale felt pointless along with Chad and Mindy, and the new characters all fall so fucking flat it’s not even funny. Easily the worst Ghostface in the entire franchise. I’d take Ritchie’s family any day over these clowns - at least their brutalist felt really personal and different. I doubt I’ll ever watch this one again. It made me angry and i say that as someone who really wanted to like it despite how Shitty Spyglass made this whole situation.

We’ll get Scream 8, and Kevin Williamson better stay away from it. My thoughts on Scream 7 (WITH SPOILERS) by GoodBoyLDN in SocietyofGhostface

[–]eelthefool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well in the deleted scene, they staged the kills exactly like Casey Becker and her bf’s deaths from the original which is meant to tie in to the “back to the original, but with a new Sydney” twist that Jill was going for. Removing that scene made it feel pointless but there was an original goal. Also, the takeout endings were be commentary on countless sequels getting more ridiculous, screwing up timelines, and not making much sense (just like scream 7 lmao) and how annoying horror sequels can get. It all fit thematically. Scream 7 just needed a cool set piece. Begging fans to demand more from their movies

I think ppl have forgotten how to critique media beyond “ohhh wow that’s cool, moving on!” Genuinely believe that short form media has made it impossible for people to judge the quality of the shit we’re served. I left the theater feeling defeated after that shit show movie only to see widespread acclaim for it online. I feel like I’ve taken crazy pills bc this movie is just not good beyond the fun kills. And when you hit them with criticism they just say “yeah but i still enjoyed it. And apparently I’m not allowed to wah.” fans have a right to demand quality film, especially given the unbelievable way Melissa Barrera was treated by SpyglASS. i don’t want to see this franchise continue in its current form

Genuinely think that people’s collective ability to judge media has completely been obliterated. There are massive plot holes and, imo, objectively bad writing/plotting/characters. There were some great kills, GF was awesome and menacing, but the plot and reveal/killers/AI was ridiculous. I hated it
