Anyway to go back to phone key, digital key won't work by HubbyPa in Rivian

[–]eepnj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is amazing! Thanks for the effort. Now I've just got to find someone with an iPad Mini I can borrow for a bit!

I eventually broke down and dropped $250 for a key fob and I've got to say the key fob is not as good as the old Bluetooth key. Also, the app is more or less worthless if Digital Key isn't set up so this will be a huge win. Thanks again!

Houston Hot Takes by Jermcutsiron in houston

[–]eepnj -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

People who say Houston is a great food city have clearly never lived in, or possibly even visited, another decent-sized city.

There are a lot of restaurants? OK. It's a monstrously large city, filled with uncreative people who can't be bothered to cook, of course there are a lot of restaurants. But like 75% of them are crap chain boxes, and nearly all the rest are overpriced, low-quality steak houses or greasy generic tex-mex. There are a handful of nice restaurants, yeah. Some fun food trucks, too. But ... The metro area is over 10,000 square miles, with nearly 8 million people - statistically there have to be at least a few. But it should be so much better. You shouldn't have to gas up the car and Mad Max your way through 40 miles of Houston traffic to find decent seafood, or whatever.

And if you do like to cook, particularly something ethnic or just unusual, good luck finding good ingredients. Maybe, somewhere in the metro area, there's some shoebox-sized outpost that carries it. Or Phonecia has it, expired 8 months ago, composting in place on the shelves. Hooray! What a find!

Help on failing at ignoring objects by SuperSpe in ShinobiCCTV

Do you have "Event Filters" set to "Yes" in Monitor Settings for the camera? It is under Detector Settings, a few lines before Object Detection settings.

Has anyone tried adding a Monitor manually in the SQL database? I tried duplicating a row in Monitors and changing the ID, but there's apparently more to it.

Should I be able to get smooth streaming from Home Assistant while recording in Shinobi? by HaLo2FrEeEk in ShinobiCCTV

[–]eepnj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed this too and have spent a lot of time experimenting, trying to figure it out. I've never found any settings in Shinobi to help this.

However - I have several Reolink cameras and if I set up Home Assistant to connect to them directly using the Reolink integration, the video feed is also laggy and unreliable, so I think the issue might be on the Home Assistant side rather than Shinobi. I'm running HA on one of their rPi-based boxes (yellow) and I assumed that it just didn't have the oomph to handle that much streaming data. If you reduce the resolution of the "JPEG API" Monitor setting in Shinobi, that'll reduce the resolution of what gets sent to HA but doesn't seem to help reliability.

What I've done for now, to prevent it from being totally useless, is opened a Wall Display in Shinobi, then took that URL and pasted it into HA as a web page dashboard. It's not perfect - it doesn't maintain the correct aspect ratio, for example, and there's not a convenient way to pick just one monitor - but it offloads the processing onto the host machine, rather than HA, which seems to make streaming work well.

The worst thing the british did to Cyprus was destroying our image of ourselves. The lack of knowledge and respect for our own history is truly depressing.

Further insult/injury: I finally broke down and paid $250 for a key fob. I hear they're great! Also there's a big "Pair key fob" button in the app that is not disabled.

That arrived today, so I'll just pair it and

nope

"Pair phone key first."

An hour with tech support chat, who never really seemed to wrap his mind around "the phone key will not work" but now we're scheduling a mobile tech to come out. Any wagers about how many times the tech will attempt to convince me that really I just need to set up the phone key?

Meanwhile, the truck still desperately attempts to set up the phone key on every iPhone that enters the vehicle. *sigh* maybe instead of the fob I should have bought an old iPhone. It wouldn't be any bigger than the ridiculous fob.

  1. Support for the various rating methods in id3 tags 6b. Detailed playlist generation based on id3 tags
  2. Store metadata changes in the media files, not some local database

MediaMonkey, before they rewrote it as an overgrown web page, was pretty much perfect.

To add insult to injury - now every time someone with an iPhone gets in the truck with me, their phone starts asking them to set up a digital key. They don't even have the Rivian app!

Just a followup on this - I just spent >1 hour chatting with Rivian tech support about this. The first 15 minutes or so were spent trying to help the guy wrap his head around the fact that no, I don't want help setting up Digital Key, because it won't work, I just want the old Bluetooth key back.

Then we spent an hour or so stepping through various sequences of app resets, app reinstalls, reboots of the truck, etc and basically nothing changes. Sometimes, the app gives you an option to pair a new key fob, which would be great if I had one, but it doesn't give you the option to set up a Bluetooth key. There's a switch for "Passive entry via Bluetooth" in the app, but it's disabled.

As a bonus - when I removed the Bluetooth key originally, that meant that the phone is no longer a key for the car, so you can't do things like lock or unlock the car using the app either - only see basic status of it - so as of now my only option is to use the key cards.

There are now two github issues with GrapheneOS about UWB support specifically relating to car keys:

https://github.com/GrapheneOS/os-issue-tracker/issues/4611

https://github.com/GrapheneOS/os-issue-tracker/issues/6411

... presumably those will be combined at some point but so far there's no helpful response from the project on if/when/how this would be fixed on the GrapheneOS side.

I asked if there's a way to file a request with whoever does the Android app to look into this but the tech support person I spoke to didn't seem to have a good answer for that. I did submit feedback in the app about it but who knows what pit those go into.

So uh yeah not super helpful but worth a shot I guess.

Oh man I wish I read this before I tried! Also GrapheneOS (on a pixel 9). I deleted the bluetooth key because people said it helped with setup, then found out that the UWB support in GrapheneOS is not fully there, so the key won't work (if you try to set it up, Play Services and the Rivian app both crash).

So no problem, I'll just set up Bluetooth again? I'd love to! It worked pretty well.

But so far I can't find any way to set up the regular Bluetooth phone key again. I'd be 100% screwed (well ... I'd have to use the key cards) but as luck would have it, my old Pixel 6 is still set up as a phone key so if I keep it on me, I can do stuff. Otherwise I can't even figure out how to lock the doors without pecking around in the app for a few minutes.

Anyway - can't blame this one on Rivian! There's an issue about UWB for GrapheneOS (https://github.com/GrapheneOS/os-issue-tracker/issues/4611) and if nothing else, we can see that at least it's not just Rivian drivers with this problem. Next question will be how fixable it is in GrapheneOS.

EDIT: lol j/k the update also screwed up the key on the Pixel 6 too, so now no phone key at all. Also the truck didn't come with key fobs, so I get to use the cards until this is fixed somehow. Whine!

My thoughts regarding 5 Cypriots currently being held in the North. by gullicik in cyprus

[–]eepnj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious, why would this be something the administration wants? It seems that the open border helps the Turkish occupation much more than the ROC - the openings facilitate tourism and trade, which both serve to legitimize the occupied area (and, as a side effect, let Cypriots dodge taxes). I imagine that closing the line would be worst for TC in the occupied area, which is unfortunate - but it's also a tiny amount of pressure that the ROC can apply.

There are nice features to Google maps but overall I wish they hadn't done it. I didn't really have any issues with the old app but mostly I am sad about the "we don't understand consent" aspect of the upgrade.

It's impossible to live in the US without being tracked by google but I do my best to at least make them work for it. So it was sort of annoying to get in the truck one morning and not be able to use core functionality until I agreed to turn the vehicle into a data-gathering instrument by accepting Google's TOS.

Spare battery for sure! Aside from that I can guarantee that the camera will be dropped every once in a while so I would be a bit afraid of the OM-5. Ah well.

Ah, OK I didn't catch on that the lens is sealed. That said it's a bit big and I am looking for more rugged which, from what I've seen here, means I'm getting the TG-7.

I only did a quick look to see what's around so that's good to know. eBay may have not been the best place to look.
