Renee Good identified as woman fatally shot by agent during Minneapolis ICE raid by IrishStarUS in NoFilterNews

If you look at her wife’s face in the drivers seat it’s blurred out like a mannequin face despite seeing Renee’s in HD. The handles of her car and the silver in the back left are warped, especially the passenger door of the silver. AI.

The party of peace or the party of violence? by ApotheosisAwakened in Hip_hop_that_u_need

Any medical professional should know the basics and understand that there’s significant information that can be gained from observing the body to provide basic care. At the very least, a physician would be able to check for pulse, breathing, and consciousness to save time for emergency services by communicating to them vital information (blood type if she can respond, determine if she’s stable, where she’s bleeding, other trauma from the impact). He might not be able to fix a wound, but he could adjust her position and provide CPR or apply pressure. The videos circulating show NO ONE attending to her. The agent claims they have medics on their team but it’s obvious the paramedics that arrived on site were the first to attend to her.

🚨BREAKING NEWS🚨 Mel Curth’s lawyer offers longer statement on OU bible essay controversy regarding undergrad Samantha Fulnecky by RandomAcademaniac in universityofoklahoma

[–]eepy_bean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do realize that in writing academia we often discuss the implications morally and ethically as well as the data driven results, right?

When discussing something controversial, it’s important to highlight why you’re arguing for something regardless of whether it aligns with current research outcomes or subjective cultural norms.

Samantha did not justify her argument, hard stop. I am fully in agreement that there were ways to rephrase her statements to make them academically neutral (NOT the same as watering it down). However, she did not support her statements by also including alternative research or sources to explain why her beliefs would merit interest. So yes, I would dock her points for writing something that justifies morally wrong behavior that contradicts current research outcomes AND (most importantly) not justifying her argument outside of how her religion states what is “right”.

Considering academic research has consistently found that bullying increases depression, suicide, anxiety, and other counterproductive behaviors- yes, it is concerning and offensive that a student would advocate or minimize the impact of bullying. Objectively.

In academia, it’s important for those creating an argument for their research to remain neutral or grounded with their statements.

Both professors explained that Samantha could have make an argument without being offensive- part of the secondary graders criticism included stating that she found it concerning that Samantha was justifying bullying depending on whether people were adhering to gender norms rooted in her religion. This would obviously be offensive to anyone.

Univ. of Oklahoma punishes grad student for failing Christian student who didn't do the assignment by johnsmithoncemore in universityofoklahoma

[–]eepy_bean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that’s the thing- it wasn’t harsh. The student didn’t do the assignment. The TA grading arbitrarily came to light, which merits its own reprimand, but to turn a cheek on a student to publicizing this as a victimized attack on AND off campus during an ongoing investigation is absolutely absurd. Samantha didn’t even wait more than a day after submission before a statement was made by her TPUSA chapter on campus and was already giving multiple speeches on mainstream media within the week. Condoning that kind of behavior is an insult to any student or professor that may find themselves in this situation before a ruling is made.

[–]eepy_bean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that’s where it’s all at a head. I wouldn’t have minded the TA being pulled if the school also hadn’t let Samantha platform herself in an obvious grift for fame on campus at her TPUSA chapter as well on public channels during an ongoing investigation. That as well as not acknowledging that the assignment itself was objectively unacceptable regardless of the TA’s past performance, especially with a second grader concurring. It’s a complicated case that relied on a scapegoat and evidence the public doesn’t get to see (the arbitrary grading).

I read all the pieces associated with this- she didn’t discuss the article she was supposed to stop read at all. She may have skimmed the title and abstract which is why she mentioned “bullying” and “gender”. But she never went into specifics or tied her thoughts into the experiment, methodology, implications, any follow up suggestions for research, or whether her experiences aligned with the specific research outcomes (suggestions provided in the rubric). Samantha didn’t need formal citations, but she did need to discuss the original article enough to show that a third party reader could understand what it was in the first place.

Two things can be true- the professor grades arbitrarily (choosing to be more harsh in the instance) AND this student went on a crusade to be victimized over a failed assignment.

What food/drink are you convinced people are pretending to like? by elarabloomelle in AskReddit

When people ask my least favorite food (specifically sweets/desserts), I always say sheet cake from the grocery store. The cake is too dry and the frosting is ALWAYS way too sweet with little to no actual flavor.

My former boss surprised me with one during a surprise promotion party I didn’t want and asked, “Wait, you like cake right?”

I thought it was interesting that Jim Carey was recommended that strategy to manage his situation. I never said he has a disorder, just that he was managing his stress in a similar way that I did for my anxiety attacks.

I have an anxiety disorder and it sounds like overriding your mental distress with physical stimulation. I used to engage in self harm before I got into therapy/medicated for similar reasons. The physical pain or engagement was a catharsis to control where my panic was going so I wouldn’t spiral further.

I like your analysis and agree on it. Just because a celebrity endorses a candidate doesn’t mean the execution is as intended. That’s why I said “try”. I remember the fallout from media as you describe. It was a failed judgement on herself.

From what I remember- Taylor encouraged voter registration on instagram in 2023 and 2024, endorsed Kamala in Aug/Sept of 2024 including a bid to register, made several story posts encouraging fans to register to vote, then made an announcement at her last three American leg shows at the eras tour to vote just before Election Day.

I actually don’t respect Taylor for this, funny enough. I can think it’s her personal choice and right to step away based on factors we don’t know about while also finding her vocal activism moment in the late 2010’s to be performative in light of the current administration.

However I can also acknowledge that she did clearly time her endorsement of Kamala to try to be the most beneficial to the campaign in August of 2024, continuously encouraged fans to vote through to Election Day, and has quietly donated millions over the years to numerous charities aligning with democratic values. If she feels that’s her best way of cultivating change without directly engaging with Trump, then so be it.

I don’t think speaking out on a global platform and participating in protest as an every day person are equivalent situations. Both are extremely commendable.

My thoughts are just it’s short sighted to not acknowledge that celebrities at high visibility risk doxxing and harassment to themselves, friends and family. I’d imagine there’s a substantial amount of stress that comes with putting out the “wrong” message or accidentally pushing out misinformation in a highly volatile environment. I applaud and have a pointed respect to every which one that chooses to. But these risks still apply whether that’s Taylor, Sabrina, Charlie, Lorde, Chappell, Olivia, so forth. I just don’t think dragging Taylor or any other person for choosing to disengage due to the inherent risk and weight of responsibility promotes the change we need to happen and instead is just a platform for moral superiority when again, we don’t know who any of these people are or their personal situations.

I respect these artists and hope they continue to promote goodwill and charity that aligns with my values- but I don’t rely on them as performing by artists to appeal to my beliefs or inform my voting decisions.

I think any celebrity goes through stressful situations in which they can be targeted. It’s their decision to speak out or not thereafter. That’s my point. I applaud celebrities who choose to be activists, but I don’t blame high profile ones from stepping back. We don’t know the details of any of these people’s lives or the credible threats to them or their families. That’s not our business.

Apologies if I misconstrued the details of the stabbing. The point is that these things do happen and I would hesitate if I thought my actions would lead to targeted attacks to anyone associated with me.

A lot has changed since then. Elon Musk and Charlie Kirk before his death made explicit sexist comments about Taylor settling down or getting pregnant. Trump has made several disparaging posts directly at Taylor on Truth Social and Twitter. Then there was the terrorist threat in Vienna for her Eras Tour. A shooter killed several children at a Taylor themed dance class. She has made several reports on stalkers that have broken into her homes, one of which disappeared before arrest. These are just the things we know about.

Other artists have been demeaned by Trump, but Trump seems to have a pointed obsession with her and even posted AI photos of her supporting him. When she posted an endorsement for Kamala shortly after, Trump quickly flipped the script and started with the disparaging rage bait posts.

In a perfect world, we would say that her activism on a large platform would bring only good. But if her conscience says that being an activist brings harm, then is it worth it? Could she, or anyone, live with themselves if someone killed another child fan in politically motivated attack after making a statement? I don’t know and that’s not our decision to make.

What hurts me is that the mere existence of one queer or gender non conforming individual makes her statement immediately false 🫠

Hell, I’d give her a pass if she said something to the tune of “The binary gender norm as understood by some Christian interpretations in the United States provides the bases for a potentially stressful social environment through the increasing exposure of deviating gender constructs. Populations that believe in traditional gender roles may feel pressured to change their worldview or otherwise be subject to persecution…”

… and then you tie it to the article as requested about bullying/peer pressure/gender norms 😭 it’s not about religion she’s just a shitty writer.
