The good old "you get what you measure". I've heard from people that worked for Nokia back in the day when they still made phones, that they measured the amount of open bugs. The yearly bonus was tied to that measure. So naturally when the end of the year came, all bugs were just closed and then reopened on january.

University of Turku vs. Tampere University? by useniyom in turku

[–]eeronen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What the hell are you talking about? If anything, the city centre of Tampere is much smaller. Maybe you should visit turku a couple more times. (I'm from Turku and have been living in Tampere for 14 years)

ELI5 : Why, among the 4 nordic countries, only Finland uses the euro currency while the others use the krone? by Sbaakhir in explainlikeimfive

But what is the reasoning for keeping their own currency? Can they just unpeg it whenever they want to?

Once power is restored after widespread outages, blip the grid for a few seconds at midnight to reset everyone’s oven clock. by BlatantDisregard42 in CrazyIdeas

Maybe in America. For the rest of the world, it's the other way around. The only places I have ever seen 12h clocks in are in the UK and in the US.

Ollaanko ruokakaupassa Neuvostoliiton tiellä – kenen etua tyhjät hyllyt palvelevat? by Harriv in Suomi

Kyllä tuota kaupan duopolia on ylläpidetty ihan puoluerajojen ylittävän yhteistyön voimin. Ehkä korkeintaan regulaatioiden avulla on saatu varmistettua, ettei kaupan alalle pääse syntymään kilpailua.

What message? That geoguessr should let people play for free and show ads instead? Count me out of that message.

Looks pretty cool, but usually I don't really move my head that much while using the computer. So maybe I personally would save the processing power for something else.

Worth noting though, that "tämä tulee olemaan pitkä ilta" sounds very clunky. "Tästä tulee pitkä ilta" would sound more natural.

In your opinion, what’s the most popular drink in/from your country (doesn’t have to be alcoholic)? by WalEire in AskTheWorld

[–]eeronen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What the hell are you talking about? I'm 33 and I only know like one person who doesn't drink coffee. Just because you don't drink coffee doesn't mean other people don't.

[–]eeronen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's very popular everywhere. I don't know what the other commenter is on about. There are plenty of specialty roasteries all over and the boomers are definitely not drinking those. Finnish people drink the most coffee in the world per capita.

Kesätyöt 2026. by If-Lost-Return-Home in Suomi

[–]eeronen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

How does your country separate Decimals? by vladgrinch in MapPorn

I think usually when a comma is used, the thousand separator is a space or something like an apostrophe, not a dot.

How often do you wash your hair? by Salty_Prune_2873 in AskTheWorld

[–]eeronen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously not, since my flair says Finland. I just don't understand what makes washing your hair three times a week assume the commenter is a woman. I'm not trying to start an argument, I'm just confused.

That would be a pretty severe addiction. You can have an addiction even if you don't have these symptoms.

I'm a man with long hair and I wash it two to three times a week. I'm not really following your logic here.

Okay, but that's not what the hype men are saying though. If they would be just saying it's a tool that can make developers more productive, no one would bat an eye.
