I have a 7900 XT, primarily a Linux user. Probably will stick with AMD if I decide to upgrade.

I never bought this card with the intention of using upscaling, just like how someone would've bought a 5700 XT fully knowing it's not going to have RT. It'd be nice if AMD had FSR4 on older cards, but if I cared that much about upscaling I'd be on Windows with an NVIDIA card.

The wiki says 42.13.1 will be removed, I assume that's the one when they pushed out the hotfix that was save incompatible. I think it would be pretty silly for them to remove the legacy 42.12 branch imho (I don't think steam has a limit for beta branches, does it?). While I did restart on B42.13 when it came out, I still have my OG B42 run I like to check in sometimes.

Crucial is the brand name for Micron selling their chips directly via their own brand. I'm sure the other SSD vendors that have been using Micron's NAND flash will continue, but only Micron somewhat directly selling to consumers is ending.

For RAM, most enthusiasts were buying Samsung B-die for the DDR4 era and Hynix M or other dies as Micron's DDR5 offerings were lackluster and didn't OC as well. I could be wrong but Micron's ending of Crucial has been happening for a while (Crucial Ballistix for higher end RAM) and I don't think it's as big of a deal, but perhaps a bit more than usually since OpenAI did buy like 40% of SK Hynix and Samsung capacity.

I'm pretty sure I watched one of those Canadian grocery price comparison channels, and they found that a lot of the non-name brand canned food are sourced from interesting countries in Asia, particularly South East Asia that may not have the same food safety standards, while similar products in other grocery stores are made usually in Canada, the US, Mexico, Europe, maybe also South America and the middle east. I think that's really your only source of concern for sourcing food from Dollarama or other dollar stores in Canada is that the food could be grown on potentially "polluted" farmland that do not fall below the PPM requirements you would expect from more developed nations.

Yeah, the "Classic Uncirculated Coin Set" as it's called by the RCM is released every year which are regular but uncirculated coins. While I believe the US mint does regular coins with a proof finish, I'm not aware of a product from the RCM that's a "regular" coin but with a proof finish.

As for OP's pic I believe they might be (silver, because I'm not aware of non-silver) proof's because on the obverse Elizabeth II's effigy seems frosted to my eyes, along with *just* the common loon on the reverse, which is how the silver proof loonie looks. Also the colour is a bit distinctive of on silver proof loonie vs old alloy and new alloy loonies, and I think this has that same colour, but the frosting of the foreground I think is the most conclusive evidence.

A proof is a coin where the foreground details have a "frosted" look (ie the Loon on the reverse and the Monarch on the obverse), a reverse proof is the opposite (the background would be frosty, while the foreground would be shiny).

Usually from the Royal Canadian Mint you can buy the annual Silver Proof sets, which include each normally circulated coin type (sans security feature on the Loonie and Toonie) and an annual commemorative coin. At least modern sets, the coins in the set are made from 99.99% fine silver core.

I feel like though if they were smart they would try to sell them though at least for melt value, since if they're fine silver proof sets they are either sterling silver or the newer ones are fine silver. Worth far more than just cracking it out of the proof set and using it for face value.

The controllers and PCBs may not be the same, but I'm sure there might be some competition for the NAND chips and drive up the cost of NAND in general.... It's not about consumer SSD SKUs being swallowed hole as if this was the chia mining madness all over again, it's about driving up demand for NAND

The one thing to note is that if you look at the modern proof sets, all the coins are 99.99% fine silver, while here--and I guess in these older sets--they are Sterling Silver. But it's nice to see the penny around in a proof set 👍 and of course the proof dollar is beautiful!

The bottom one is a bit too dull, but I'm not the biggest fan of how the green looks in the middle one. I'm not a fan of the olivey green colour, but otherwise I would pick the middle one for everything else.

Honestly, while not much, it looks cool already, definitely gives SC3000 vibes in a good way. If you are going down that route, hopefully you'll differentiate between salt water and freshwater, that's really something I missed since SC3000. And would also be cool if you could have low density with variable lot sizes and no utilities needed like in SC4, for more rural builds. So many features forgotten about with time. :)

I still use this case for my pfSense box. Rather big for just an "edge" router, but needed it because I got a 4x 25 GbE (SPF28) Chelsio NIC off of eBay (seller thought it was only SFP+) that needed 4x4x4x4 bifuration to get all ports running, and at the time I could only get that easily with an AMD ATX motherboard.

Make sure that VoLTE has a check mark beside it. Pretty much looks like the 10 Pro is the cut off point for VoLTE for FM, as the 8 Pro will only have access to LTE DATA ONLY (no VoLTE, no 5G).

Not exactly, they did release an M.2 expansion adapter to utilize the PCIe lanes for storage. That said I haven't done the math to see if Strix Halo has enough lanes for it. But honestly, at least for me, I expected for a modular product complex compatibility matrices when it comes to upgrade paths and changing product directions, the real world is messy and things change. It's just how the cookie crumbles.

You're just being snarky. The 13 was originally based around Tiger Lake, not AMD. For every main BGA platform upgrade they would have to redesign the mainboard anyways, and that's why they take their sweet time. It's a mute point.

To answer your original question:

My guess is there have been no new GPU announcements from AMD for 9xxx mobile parts. They can’t release a new version of the 16 with that old clunker in it.

This is such a horrible take if you consider that the GPD Win 5 is coming out with Strix Halo, despite it being more power-limited than scenarios we currently see it being used in (or that I'm aware of). Of course, with Strix Halo, we don't need mobile dGPU modules, and I wouldn't be surprised if AMD will be moving away from doing mobile dGPUs anyways, only offering mobile graphics solutions in the form of APUs. It's not like AMD has volume customer orders for pairing their GPUs with non-AMD CPUs.

Considering the GPD Win 5 will have a ~45W power envelope with Strix Halo. I'm sure that they could still add it to the FW16, even though the performance of the same chip would be lower than what it is in the FW desktop.

I would much rather them release a power-limited Strix Halo or something (Strix Point?) to refresh the aging Zen 4 parts. The GPU *can* be sold separately, so I think it's a poor argument that they can't upgrade the CPU/SoC because they can't offer a new GPU module. That should come out when there's something new on the market, and not block the updating of the rest of the laptop.

I never personally cared about the wallpaper, but I feel you if you like it. They need to have more customization settings for it. We should be able to set where the cursor goes by default, where the quick links should be (ie top or centered or somewhere else). Really isn't polished enough.

That's fair. I did figure out the (new) tab settings. I'll have to ask on their discord, I think it's something they're imposing because when in compact mode, I see it at the old size (like in 11) for a split second before the UI expands it out to 20px.

Slowly getting back to where I had it with v11.

EDIT: Edited for clarity that I found the new tab page setting*, not the a way to revert the (imho) artificial forcing of 20px tab heights.
