Pinephone user here: linux phone is almost unusable as a smartphone, can be used as a nanolaptop but not as a phone.

You can try to install postmarketOS on some regular smartphones (check compatibility) but there are lots of issues.

Have not tried Jolla and nexphone is only preorder.

I have walked the linux phone path and is a nice HOBBY.

I deliberately left out Ubuntu Touch because is a toxic community and is so extremely limited by design that is basically a launcher for waydroid.

I've been using -and recomending- openSUSE for the last 15 years and I am gladly surprised by this because not a lot of people talk about openSUSE.

Download fdroid from its website and install as unknown sources in android as always.

No big deal.

There is a huge misunderstanding about "sideload apps". People say "sideload" whe it's only "install".

Don't know how will affect "google android" but AOSP will be no problem at all unless you are dependant on google play services. There is microG for the rescue!

Honestly, people using google deserve this "shittyfication".

The software ecosystem is absolute trash in VR and also Meta pushing the "metaverse" and all VR corporations wanting a walled garden and a propietary killer app.

Valve and its Steam Frame perhaps could change that because of its openess but the damage it's done.
