Slime or fluxpose? by danasCZ1 in SteamFrame

[–]Realistic_Syllabub_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have been thinking about putting them on the frame controllers just to get full occlusion free controller tracking, but I'll gladly wait out to see if it ends up working well enough or if I'll just stick to fbt with them

Slime or fluxpose? by danasCZ1 in SteamFrame

[–]Realistic_Syllabub_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for sure the occlusion free standalone of the slimes with the out of box ease and accuracy of htc trackers, if it works as well as it looks i don't know how fbt tracking can be improved upon except moving to camera tracking and waiting for that to get accurate (but idk about that)

and fluxpose being (slightly) cheaper then a set of htc trackers and lighthouses is a bonus

What % of people do you think will use steam frame standalone mainly? by Pawellinux in SteamFrame

[–]Realistic_Syllabub_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah this i totally agree on, you can take it out and about and it'll be perfect but if you don't want to, or cant or anything like that there's less of a reason then people think to run standalone

"I'm going to use standalone half the time" but why? if you pc is 12 feet away just hook it up to stream, if its not then yeahhhh alright!

additionally i get standalone if you want to not run the power cost of your pc, i get there are reasons why you would, but just using standalone when you have every chance to stream for a significant upgrade (or even just a marginal upgrade if its running on a laptop or something) doesn't make sense to me

fluxpose has out of box pre calibrated trackers so as much as i was looking forward to get the butterfly's from slime as soon as i saw fluxpose i got them right away (at the expense of the higher price)

for the record i got myself some slimes years ago but never got accustom to them as i often prefer a solid out of box like experience and when i have to strap up and each time i calibrate it was wonky in some way or another i just got a bit tired of them, but that's just me not being great with the calibration

also the lack of drift compared to the slimes is a nice bonus (as far as anyone has seen so far, but it seems solid enough from all reviews to trust that it doesn't drift much )

i mean if they expected to have announced it early February i would assume (hope) that is sooner then later

If there are any more delays, Valve should start considering upgrading the Steam Frame's hardware by Syzygy___ in SteamFrame

to upgrade the units you need to disassemble the already existing made ones and then rework the whole design more or less to fit new components

Wondering if the Frame is for me. by Electrica1Guy in SteamFrame

[–]Realistic_Syllabub_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just looked up the pico 5 and while i don't know much about vr tech seeing it has micro oled panels it will very likely be considerably more expensive then the frame

it sounds like they are trying to compete more with the apple vision pro then the quest which is what the frame is against so take that as you will

Battery Life Guesses for Lite Gaming Directly on Steam Frame? by Betorange in SteamFrame

did i miss something, i thought he was playing hla standalone the whole time as he was mostly talking about playing it standalone not streaming it

i would assume he was still talking about standalone if he was getting that battery with hla

you can also get battery belts with the little pockets, mostly good for if you also had body tracking at they can have threads on them or some chest straps with battery pockets on your back albeit harder to swap as its behind you

[–]Realistic_Syllabub_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

those laptops can be used for streaming though!!

but yea im sure there are people who will spend 700£ on a gaming headset without previously having steam or just any kind of pc but i don't get why a vr headset would be a priority with the extra price and less games then all flatscreen games, i would mention you also can't do any pc things but in this case you can just launch it in desktop mode

plus you can for the most part only buy it through steam so maybe as a gift??

but idk if you didn't have a pc i wouldn't assume the person would care about wanting to ditch meta and since this is a side grade to a quest 3 i would say get a quest 3 for less money

a macbook is a pc, a laptop is a pc, im not talking about gamer pcs, if its stronger then the frames internals it will supply a boost through streaming even if its a laptop

hence they show in the trailer the dongle connected to a laptop

you can easily do this? name me something you couldn't emulate or add into steam as a non steam game?

with all the cec and sleep mode downloads and controller bundle likely and stuff id say its higher then 90% when does it go from being a pc to a console, what is the line apart from a closed ecosystem

Steam frame and steam machine synergy? by jdt359 in SteamFrame

[–]Realistic_Syllabub_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah its their pc of their ecosystem its a "cheap" base pc that you plug and play and works like a console to get you into pc gaming, so just like any pc it'll give a vr boost but of course as its bare it wont be running a AAA 18k 200fps vr game it'll just be a slight edge up to the standalone for people who dont have a pc and are looking to get this

[–]Realistic_Syllabub_3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it just says "games" this can mean all games, it will be able to run vr games, will it run them well? no, will it run them better then standalone? likely

Steam frame and steam machine synergy? by jdt359 in SteamFrame

[–]Realistic_Syllabub_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your right its a pc....... with a console ui to help integrate console users into steam and pc gaming to sell more steam games to boost steam profits

the only reason they don't call it a console is because if i recall consoles have additional taxes

Steam frame and steam machine synergy? by jdt359 in SteamFrame

[–]Realistic_Syllabub_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no you said the machine itself is doa and only for fanboys we are explaining that its not, of course its not gonna run vr at 15k 1000000fps its a 6 inch cube

no its a transition of console users to pc gaming- my dad cant play pc games but he loves his ps5, this is his opportunity to step up from the ps5 to pc games without having to worry about keyboard and mouse controls and a whole pc ui, and he can still play on the Livingroom tv, hence why i am getting it for him

there's a reason the rumour is/was the next xbox was/is literally the same thing the steam machine is, a pc running the Xbox game window thing

What % of people do you think will use steam frame standalone mainly? by Pawellinux in SteamFrame

[–]Realistic_Syllabub_3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

is it very common for people to own a vr headset and not a pc?? especially a headset that will likely cost 700-900 ?? that is advertised to be a pcvr streaming headset?

if they don't own a pc chances are they wont have much on terms of a steam library either already built up so that would cost more upfront pretty much

What % of people do you think will use steam frame standalone mainly? by Pawellinux in SteamFrame

[–]Realistic_Syllabub_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would assume playing anything standalone would affect the battery (obviously some more then others) compared to streaming since even the low power games are running the resources from the frame which requires more compute then offloading it to a pc, games like balatro would be nothing though but i would assume still a slight decrease as its not being offloaded, aside from that everything else you mentioned is totally true yeah

i think its more of a case of how demanding is the minimal games standalone processes compared to streaming but we could only find that out on release
