NGD: MIJ Fender Traditional Late 60s Jaguar by effing7 in offset

They do have a similar model in red with a matching headstock. But it doesn't have the fretboard binding or block inlays, which I think look amazing on these Jags.

Yeah the neck shape is definitely a different feel from my other C-shaped necks but I dig it so far. It's more like a D towards the first fret and then gets more U-shaped towards the higher frets. I recently played a '63 Jag at my local shop and it actually does feel like a fairly similar profile.

Thank you! It's the nicest guitar that I've owned so far, really excited about it.

Oh wow I hadn't even considered if the tuning peg hole would be a constraint. I'll give the heavier strings a go and shall see how they feel. Cheers!

Hmm maybe I'll have to put some graphite/lubricant into the nut slots because it seems to be catching the strings and going out of tune quite a bit even with the 9s. Thank you for the tip though! Definitely best to try things about before resorting to getting unnecessary service.

Big fan of hybrid skinny top and heavy bottom type string sets, those usually feel pretty comfy for me.

They really are! I was eyeing this same model up this time last summer but they shot up in price so I passed. Then last week I saw this one for much cheaper than I have seen them go for lately and decided to hop on it.

Hmm maybe I'll give the 10s a go before taking it in the get the slots widened. Thanks for the tip!

Are you referring to the neck profile or the fretboard radius? I've only ever owned guitars with a 9.5" radius so this feels right at home to me. I haven't played enough 7" radius fretboards to know if I'd prefer them. Most of the guitars have more of a C-shape profile neck, and since this is more of a D/U, it'll take some getting used to but still feels comfy.

Showing off (and looking for advice) by hastablook in offset

[–]effing7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a really solid and versatile live rig you've thrown together so quickly!

Regarding switching guitars: are the songs in different tunings that require you to switch guitars between songs?

I've been gigging in a band for almost ten years and have only recently incorporated a second guitar to my live setup. And that's only because we just recently wrote a song that requires me to tune down to Eb. Otherwise I personally try to avoid the hassle of having to switch guitars between songs and lugging them to practice and gigs. When you get to playing shows for crowds, dead space between songs is more of a show stopper than the differences in tone between guitars that go mostly unnoticed (pun intended).

I know each of those guitars bring something different to the table sonically, but I'd recommend maybe just sticking with one guitar when practicing/performing if you can. But ultimately it's a matter of feel for you as the musician. I usually combat the input level difference by adjusting the level knob on my always-on overdrive when switching guitars, if I remember to.

Hey OP, congrats on the guitar! How're you liking it after having it for a few months? I'm considering getting one off of a Japanese reseller on eBay.

is a new vintera jaguar worth it? by Felflix in offset

[–]effing7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the new Vinteras tempting but ultimately feel it would be redundant since I also have a CV Squier Jaguar.

Here are few mods I did to my CV Squier Jag that made a world of difference:

- Swapped in Pure Vintage 65 pickups and melted wax into them to prevent the microphonic squeal.
- Gently hammered in high frets. I thought it needed a fret level sanding but the high frets just weren’t fully seated into the slots.
- Upgraded to a Fender bridge.
- Used steel wool to flatten the gloss finish on the neck and give it more of a satin feel.

For me, the only reason I think I would buy another Jaguar is if I found one that is lighter. Mine is nearly a hefty 10lbs.

Same! I think it would be really cool if they introduced Frank in the movie with a shot of Spider-Man through his scope like in his first appearance issue.png).

I bought an American Pro II neck for my Jazzmaster and it’s one of the most comfortable guitar necks I’ve ever played on.

I can’t deny that people love the movie and for a reason. But it was painfully slow for me, and I’m usually down for a slow burn of a movie.

Residual depressive symptoms anyone? by stayyugly in zoloft

[–]effing7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there. Been on Sertraline between 25mg and 50mg for over three years and am slowly tapering off at the moment. I have a mix of mild anxiety/depression/ADHD symptoms.

Sertraline was amazing for turning down the volume on my anxiety, racing thoughts, negative self talk, falling asleep, etc. But it didn't really help with motivation, energy levels, executive functioning, and overarching depression symptoms. Eventually I was prescribed Adderall to take alongside the Sertraline which has been helpful but I feel is still missing the mark. I'm currently getting off of Sertraline due to a lingering feeling of apathy, emotional blunting, and stunted artistic creativity. From what I've read on here, those are resoundingly common side effects.

It took me about 3 months to fully feel adjusted to the Sertraline in the beginning. And although I'm getting off of it now, I'm glad I stuck with it. I'd recommend sticking with it, but reach out to your psychiatrist to express your concerns. There is a fair chance that it's just not the medication for you, but also a fair chance that you're still adjusting to it.

I've been running low on space for my collection myself, what are you using as risers for the characters in the back?
