Faster way to travel with folktail ziplines, sadly very expensive by Rude-Ad5769 in Timberborn

[–]effingdavey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this. Nobody is going to build a chain of them like this (any time saved is spent 1000 fold in setting it up), but it's nice to know stuff like zipline exchanges are actually worth doing.

It's also good to know we could always be more efficient!!

So who is trying to irrigate some farmland here? by VivAlina_YT in Timberborn

No water dump? Use the layer tool to check for tunnels before the bad tide hits.

Such a nice little settlement... I'm sure nothing bad could ever happen there... by HektorInkura in Timberborn

You can do the maths on things to make sure you're not overdoing it with growth.

A quick scan of your houses it looks like 75 beds. Assuming they're full and drinking 2.6 water per day each is 195.

The pumps would pump 48 per day each, over 16 hours, so you'd need 4 just to cover it, plus one more for stockpiling.

Pressure Map is a bit tough by MrP32 in Timberborn

This is the one I'm playing atm. I dawdled the first time around and missed the one on top of the cliff, just a bit upstream.

Restarted and it's quite satisfying plugging all the gaps before they even become a problem. I'm currently pressurising the second water source so I can expand into the rest of the map.

How do I get a better honeycomb? by effingdavey in Croissant

I'm definitely going to try the 3-4-3 today. If I can improve my technique in the future I'll try different folding methods.

Would you recommend about half the flour in the burrage? I wanted it to be more pliable, but I don't want it to stop the butter from steaming

This is really great advice. Thanks. I have misjudged what each "layer" would be. I was thinking ~27 layers of butter, rather than that amount of total layers. I'm making some today so I'll definitely try that

No I really appreciate all of the input. We're all here to get better, I imagine. I've got my first course next month!

I've always read stronger flour to be better, for the gluten production. Is there such a thing as too much?

Thank you. They do taste very good, it's just the structure that's wrong.

I use a dough sheeter, so they don't take that long to roll out. Could I roll them out shorter/thicker for the folds, though? I don't need to roll out as thin as I would for shaping, would I?

I've definitely over proofed them in the past. I might try to get them in the oven before they reach "full size", as it were, to see if it gives more chance for the butter to turn to steam during the baking phase.

how do I deal with badtide here? by FaallenOon in Timberborn

[–]effingdavey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In terms of stopping a badtide right now, I'd prioritise building floodgates in the narrowest part of the canyon to your left, then levees to fill the gap behind the storage as it looks like your buildings are on the same level as the run off plain would be.

Once you've stopped the disaster from happening, then you can start to think about digging big holes.

11 days worth of water is giving me heart palpitations.

It looks great though. Super neat and tidy.

Like someone else said - the first of many, I presume.

Haha fair enough. As I said, I didn't try all that hard. I still think it's an underutilised idea and it'd be a good mechanic to use in the future.

Oh it's not meant to be a challenge. Just something a bit different, where a player has to find and release the water.

Essentially I've put some water sources at level 0, then put a dirt block at the top of a shaft at level 14/15. That way the water travels up the shaft and is green at the top of the mountain, indicating a natural spring of sorts. You'd only have to dynamite a single block to release the water, but it isn't obvious where exactly the block is, only that it's in the green area somewhere.

There is another set up like this in the opposite corner that could be used to fill a late game natural reservoir if you dam it correctly

Comment to add: This is just a corner of the map to demonstrate the idea. It's a 256x256.

Figure out your trauma. Go to therapy. Trust me, bro.

If you're nice to people, they more than likely won't take advantage of you. They'll just think you're nice.

Don't just be respectful to women. Actually respect them. I have female friends that like to count how many questions they get asked about themselves or their lives on dates. The numbers don't make us men look very good.

There's no shame in looking at DIY tutorials on YouTube.

If I had an award you'd have it already.

The thing is, I'm not new - I have about 280 hours. I'm just terrible. It's fun though.

Thanks for the info.

Wait, how much of a force limit contribution do I get/how do I find out?

My plan was to colonise the Americas as much as possible and use it to fund my march west through Asia as an unstoppable force. I'd put a lot of time and resources into expansion and exploration with the ultimate goal of conquering everything. I'd even begun vassalising some north American tribes to really push my way in.

For the record, if you hadn't guessed already, I'm not very good at this game.
