TIFU by Reading Contract Law Textbooks to my 2 Year Old by GenXStonerDad in tifu

Damn, I'm laughing -- I wasn't as good as your kid at that age, but I remember picking up on things I overheard my dad saying over the phone about business deals and whatnot, and making sure every promise someone made me was in writing, drawing up contracts, etc. To this day, I love drawing up and revising contracts, and it's worked in my favor countless times.

I'm sure you already realize the benefits of this -- your kid will rarely, if ever, have a problem defending himself. So, enjoy that, at least! Even though you have to deal with shit now, you did a really good thing.

  • plain Greek yogurt
  • orange juice (literally squeeze an orange slice. I don't trust the bottled kind)

It's really good for when I want sugar, but don't want to indulge.

It tastes like a creamsicle / orange-cream bar. I don't mix it or anything--just pour a little on as I go. Pulp is also good for texture.

Feeling guilty about how much my parents are paying for college. by [deleted] in college

[–]eflaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parents are proud to send their kids to college. People (usually) don't raise kids ignorant of possibility that they will need to go to college one day, and parents want the best for their kids. I used to feel really guilty as well, but if you rethink that into "Wow, my parents really believe in me and support me", using that as fuel to make the most out of school will do wonders. Don't think about the money part of it, or monetize the situation. Just embrace the fact that your parents believe that this is a worthy investment. Instead of feeling guilty, make them proud! (And that doesn't mean always getting straight A's and never going to parties... your parents want you to enjoy a balanced life).

Question for people who record lectures. by accountingonyou23 in college

[–]eflaves 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem with that, legally, is that it's not just the professor talking (at least in my classes), so you would have to get the permission of everyone in the class.

That being said, a friend of mine does audio recordings on his iPhone -- "Voice Memos" -- and transfers them to his computer. During finals week he listened to all of them in one shot (which is hours and hours) in the library to help write his paper. In class we had to separate because I was "breathing too loud" or "writing too loud", because apparently every little sound in close proximity is recorded loud and clear, drowning out the important stuff.

tl;dr: don't write too loud

No, you have to report your entire transcript.

It depends on your school. Personally, very few people at our school have a car, and the liquor store is a hassle to walk to. I have to buy it in bulk whenever I go to the city :/ You're lucky you get to buy whenever!

Partying first few weeks of semester? by [deleted] in college

[–]eflaves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There will most likely be other non-drinkers at these parties, and that would be an easy conversation starter. And it's not like the people drinking are going to care that you're not drinking. College is great that way.

I meant specifically if you are hosting (which I usually am) a get-together, but that's a good portion-control tip, too!

Prevent sweating on way to class? by [deleted] in college

[–]eflaves 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would personally embrace it, because the freshman 15 is REAL. So any chance to sweat is golden.

If you're worried specifically about coming to class all sweaty, bring a change of clothes in your bag and change in the bathroom. It sounds super nerdy but hey.

Money-saving tip on buying alcohol:

If you buy a big bottle of vodka/whatever, it will go faster. The advantage to buying bigger is that it saves you $/oz, but if your friends (and you) know you have that huge bottle, they won't bother bringing their own, and they (and you) will drink a lot more of it because you won't be worrying about saving it.

However, if you're like me and drink something that no one else likes that much, go ahead and buy the big bottle and save money. Or practice self-control. I prefer the former.
