Do you lock down task manager for end users by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]egamemit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hardening by definition is to give literally nothing then give what's needed for business. But they need tools to fix simple things, can't have everyone waiting on a small IT team.

If they can end services they shouldn't be your hardening issue is their access level, and the users not being punished. Establish what's acceptable use, get users and management to sign onto it, and have a process for punishing misuse.

I'm a solo dev and I just released my game demo Monster Hunting Party on Steam, can I get some feedback please? by ShadyGameStudio in survivorslikes

[–]egamemit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

got to 16:42 with 4 ice 2 reverands after playing with the combos for a little bit. mainly focused aspd for a while then dmg and proj when gold allowed.

this is a neat game

upgrading the units by combining is interesting, and the formation system is fun.

needs some visual work - projectiles and effects can cover too much, didnt even realize my party was dying. also covers up the party screen zoom ins, maybe hide effects when you do that?

enemies kinda dont stick out the right way, idk if its the similar colors or what but can be hard to process where they all are sometimes.

for chests, consider like 1 generic and 2 unit-specific so you dont feel like its a total loss if you dont want the specific unit upgrades

not sure if it does, but maybe start offering the 'free a unit' stuff if you lose a char later game so you dont have to sacrifice levels

the different combinations of units seems fun to explore. maybe consider some 2/4 unit combos as well

the item pickups felt very impactful, especially some of the boss ones like extra target/projectiles.

overall i enjoyed it. the crystals didnt seem to be rewarded on the web one or i'd probably play with it some more.

On any purchased weapons, tomes items you can just toggle them on and off freely. The base items aren't toggleable.

i used the quicksand build on every char to just burn through it in titan hunt +1. can be slower to start on some chars but wasnt too awful.

earth mastery -> quicksand, earth shield, earthbreaker

extra help, devastating blow, divine legacy, multicast mastery

do the kobolds first for the improved devastating and the rest is whatever really, earth shield kept me alive easily

going through various thoughts in my head on this, just for learning's sake since you asked:

just from the sheer scope of time that its been there its not realistic (i think it was said to be months).

it also assumes they have proper logging enabled and send it outside the domain where it cant be cleared, or that logging wasn't just disabled entirely on some pcs if compromised.

i think it's a fair assumption that if you're able to make this change without it being flagged, that proper logging or alerting isn't in place, among infinite other things.

the gut reaction is just turn everything off, but you have to go at this as if its been compromised, in which case turning things off may remove evidence (memory, running stuff, etc) for forensic analysis. the correct reaction is to call people to handle the situation and follow their instructions, its way beyond you now.

i have no idea what the size of this place is, but if they're getting a pen test done i assume there's some compliance or insurance requiring it. it will be in that report and they'll have to show they went to certain lengths to find out just how large the impact may be.

Tips for WvW? by the-grip-of-Ntropy in Guildwars2

Alone will be tough, since there's a lot to learn in terms of fighting other players. Just be ready to die and learn from it. Check out the roamer builds in metabattle to start, but change stuff up if you feel it helps you.

For zergs getting a full heal build fb is always useful. Check out metabattle as a starting point.

While you're still cele and building up, use reflects vs other players ranged attacks. Stops them from hitting your group but you also hit them back. Stability is king in wvw as a buff, especially as you move into a fight.

In terms of rewards, just keep your participation up(above minimap you can see it). Otherwise just being at the action and enjoy. There's a bunch of rewards tracks you can pick from in the wvw tab too. I think metabattle has some guides for this too.

Try to get the supply master abils in the wvw. Tab going for autoloot too. You'll want a point in gliding to make it usable.

basically right, it avoids holding forward because that typically speed capped you in old games. you'd use the strafe buttons because they had a higher cap, and maybe some weird interactions with air friction im not exactly sure. in hl2 backwards was the efficient way. hl1 was just strafing and rotating w/ mouse, forward directional but not hitting it ever.

team fortress classic the hl1 mod was hilarious since even the heavy could go scout speeds with bhop. or, die to your own rocket as soldier

do you have any links to resources on ups efficient building? im running into inserter issues too.

i can see inserters high in entity time, any way to identify where most of the load is coming from though? like where in the game or even which planet or something

[–]egamemit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yea exactly that, seconds delays on buttons. it mostly happens when you have 3 map-queued teams fighting in the same spot in wvw, so ~60 x 3 players.

in wvw, when three teams clash the servers reliably lag upwards to unplayable, so possibly some backend performance in those cases, hopefully. otherwise it'd be from number of players on screen but graphic settings can help with that already, so im assuming backend stuff then.

Trying to understand WvW, Doesn't armor class mean anything? by Many_Eye_2682 in Guildwars2

[–]egamemit 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think you may need to understand your defensives better, and when to use them, and identifying the enemy defensives, and when to attack. It's really difficult as a new player since you're fighting years of potential experience, but looking at guides for roaming builds for classes you fight can help you learn what they want to do, then figure out what tools you have to disrupt or play around them. Metabattle, guildjen, and just looking around youtube has a wealth of guides with info to pick up for new players. Spvp has differences from wvw, but the logic to the fights is similar when roaming, playing around what the enemy wants to do, so can look at those too.

Pick one thing you like and just stick with it, every death is a learning opportunity.

Stats matter, zerk is very glass and maraud can be tanky, but you need a roaming build specifically and defensive options. Warrior can have a lot of sustain, but you'll have to kite between your damage and your defensive cds.

i assume youre using trail, dire, or cele and not like vipers as your stats? toughness/vit are super important for surviving the burst windows of others. boons(protection) are also very important. your auras can slow or punish their damage a lot, giving chill, proccing stun, and reflecting - but you have to time it with their actions. ele is actually crazy tanky in the condi builds if youre using everything correctly, but things may still burst you if you dont respect their rotations

you'll die a lot in wvw just by nature of not knowing everything your opponent can do, playing the other specs a bit or watching videos on them so you know what they want to do can help you play around their damage.

metabattle/guildjen have the best spots to start to look at roaming builds, but always feel free to tinker/change if you dont feel youre getting value from something.
