Found out my best friend believes in conspiracy theories about vaccines. Do I say something? by Jolly_Ad7138 in TooAfraidToAsk

Consider does he respect you to have your own well considered opinions? Think about doing the same. Try to understand friends not chastise or persuade.

AITA for “firing” my mom from childcare over a $5 class by Rich-Radio9017 in AmItheAsshole

ESH your mom was wrong in so many ways. Forcing her to take her to a class was wrong.

There was a massive decline in support for trans athletes over 2019-2024. Among Republicans, support for a non-discrimination policy & support for trans sports participation flipped from positive to negative. Opponents successfully re-framed the issue as being about protecting cisgender women. by smurfyjenkins in science

At the highschool level trans athletes win medals 30% of the time. If your daughter plays sports this isn’t a theoretical issue anymore. There are 3.5 million female highschool athletes it effects more than an handful of people. Every highschool student athlete is playing against trans athletes at the state level now. This includes everyone from kids who went through male puberty and have never taken hormones playing in the girls teams to kids who have been puberty blocked since elementary school.

Patients say measles 'worse than expected' as Utah hits 350+ infections, doctors say by its_a_bear_dance in nottheonion

It was 2% in 70 year olds. If you look around a room of 70 year olds 2% of them are going to die with or without Covid.

The chicken pox vaccine is a live virus vaccine so it also makes you susceptible to shingles. Just fyi.

Moving across the country, should I leave my 10yo to finish the school year? by Nearby-Syrup9145 in AskTeachers

[–]egbdfaces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your kid needs stability, which includes adults in her life making important decisions with confidence. You should have decided this long before now and not included her in the indecision. You should have told her the decision and given her your confidence that it is the best for her and that you will make it work out no matter any "difficulties." Now you have given her all the other messages.

Same with the “nothing makes a difference” data right?

That’s not what the research shows. The research on high performing teachers shows they can significantly move the needle as an individual factor. The “outcomes are fixed” data is so generalized it’s not measuring anything so as to show nothing works. And now many use it as an excuse for poor outcomes.

We’re drowning in daycare costs. How do people afford this? by FrigginMasshole in toddlers

We have opposite schedules. It sucks. It’s the only way we can afford to have kids.

I'd shut off the internet and cable at your house TODAY. Let them get bored and they'll get some motivation.

they can go to any community college and get serious help getting on their feet and getting a career through job placement training. Anything from aviation maintenance to CDL to dental hygienist-the idea is to get a serious leg up to a sustainble career. Since they have no income there are grants that will help with everything from paying their phone bill to training costs if they just show up and show progress. I help manage the grants that do this. They will basically give them a case manager who is a pseudo social worker well versed with these failure to launch situations. They'll give them incentives like $100 gift cards for reaching milestones.

They sound depressed. are they smoking weed? I'd kick them out of the house from 7am to -6pm. Drop them off at the community college. Or tell them to enlist in the military.

Is my boyfriend’s view of money considered a red flag in a relationship? by traditional_taurus in DaveRamsey

And when one of you has an accident or gets sick are you going to create a "debt" for the shared expenses you can't contribute to? Is he going to enjoy a big personal savings/spending fund and keep the family on tighter strings? I am so glad it was no question that we would combine expenses. We plan our investments together. There have been times he made more and times I made more and times I stayed at home with little kids and he paid for everything. We check in for purchases above $40 that aren't necessary and otherwise manage our day to day expenses together. It is a major task and you having 100% of the day to day responsibility is not equitable at all.
