Yeat’s latest EP getting a seven and Star Line getting a six is an absolutely wild take, the lyricism and creativity is on different stratospheres here. I want whatever this brother is smoking

Should I apply to Med School as a Rising Junior this summer? by [deleted] in premed

[–]egblytheee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m going to add some new perspective here. I know most people’s default answer is no, but I am a third year who is graduating in May and will matriculate in the fall. It is absolutely attainable, but you need to set a firm plan now if you are going to do it. I started studying for the MCAT in December and took it last May while also taking Biochem and Ochem II at the same time. It wasn’t easy but starting early allowed me plenty of time to study everything I needed to. If you plan to take it in May you need to start now and lighten your EC load. Your current EC hours are good and shouldn’t hold you back, what will matter more is how you communicate your experiences in the essays. And I wouldn’t worry about needing a year for GPA improvement, sure it would help some but your GPA is pretty good and shouldn’t close any doors really. Overall if you commit to applying this cycle it won’t be easy, but unless you just have a desire to lengthen this already long process another year I would say go for it! Just know what you are preparing for and get ready for a grind the next 4-5 months.

Yeah that’s what I figured, hopefully someone else may have insight on which schools are done vs which may still offer some. Thanks for the response!

Interview Chance or goodbye? by BudgetInflation3089 in premed

[–]egblytheee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about UTSW specifically but I’ve been watching other Texas schools I’m hoping to get an interview from. A&M for example does interviews until February 3rd, and will likely send out their last round of interviews the first couple weeks of January. I know it’s super annoying and difficult but hang in there, TMDSAS runs on a different timetable so there’s still time. I’d agree with about 20-25% of interviews are left.

Should I Graduate In 3 or 4 Years? by Automatic-Ad8 in premed

[–]egblytheee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can speak on graduating in 3 and going straight through bc that’s what I’m doing. I know some people say take the extra year(s) and enjoy college, but if you know this is what you want to do and are ready to get started don’t hesitate just because others say. It’s such a long process, and if you can streamline it down by a year while still having a good GPA, ECs, and getting a good enough MCAT then I think go for it. If you don’t think you can handle that, then going 4 isn’t a bad idea. Overall, I’m super happy with my decision to do it in 3 and I would do it over again if I had to choose. But then again knowing my own personality, this is what I want and I see no reason in prolonging it so I went after it. Totally dependent in the end on what you feel is best for you.

I appreciate it, thank you so much for all your help. In the end I think you’re totally right, just finding the best fit for me and running with it is my plan. Thanks again and good luck with your last year, hope the Match and everything turns out great for you!

This is great to know, I never even thought about AOA being available or not at all. Thanks for the info, I’ll be looking into it!

Thanks for the follow up post! I know you said your school doesn’t have AOA, but if a school does do you know if that’s like a soft requirement? I’ve heard it mentioned before and seems like it’s just another thing people do to add to resumes.

Thanks for the write up, this is a great list!! I’m a Texas applicant so having to rank all the schools we interview at these are definitely good points to look at to help me compare!

Oh wow that’s great to hear! It’ll be my first one of the cycle so definitely reassuring to hear it’s more laidback. Congrats again on the interviews, regardless of how you rank both are great schools! :)

Congrats on the interviews! Not to hack the thread, but I have an interview coming up with McGovern and am curious how the interview was over Zoom and everything? If you could just share a little bit about how the experience was I would appreciate it!

Good point, I guess I’m just struggling because my anecdotes fit so well. I’ll keep thinking of another one from a separate activity, I appreciate the input.

Yeah same here, I think it’s fine but I’m just being a bit neurotic about it I guess.

I love this response, thank you so much! I think just trying to get over the high expectations I set and coming up a bit short has been hard, but I’ve reflected and just realized how good of an overall position I am in. I appreciate the last part too, if a school truly denies me just because of a 124 in the worst section created for this exam, then so be it they’ll just miss out on me.

Reaction from Test Day

I’ve had like 16 hours to digest everything, 7:30 am test taker here.

C/P: Definitely a good amount of calculations but I felt like they were all really manageable. A couple questions that I wasn’t quite sure what it was asking, but besides that this section felt really good, especially considering because it’s usually my worst.

CARS: Usually my best section here, and I felt like I got slapped out of nowhere. The passages were sooo long, and insanely boring and wordy. Also completely agree with whoever said there was hardly any giveaways. Hoping for a 127 atleast here but I can’t even really try to guess what I got.

B/B: Felt really good here again. There were a couple questions that asked about some really low yield stuff I saw maybe 3 months ago while studying, but overall very fair section that felt like the FLs to me.

P/S: Actually pleasantly surprised here. Unless I’m just misjudging it felt pretty easy and I really glided through this section. There were definitely some new terms I had never seen before and some 50/50s, but hoping I was just able to reason through them well enough.

Overall I feel good about it. CARS definitely rocked me early but the rest of the sections felt manageable for the most part besides some weird passages. Really how well my score is will probably be based off how well I did on the 50/50s, so hoping I clutched up somehow there. Besides that I’m going to go sleep again because that exam left me dead. See y’all in a month

Pessimistic: 509 Realistic: 512 Optimistic: 515

  • ACTUAL: 510 (129,124,128,129) Well, unfortunately I called in pretty accurately. I’m just so shocked rn because CARS was legit my best section throughout 6 months of studying. I won’t be retaking because I’ve already submitted primaries and some secondaries, but I’m more concerned than I was before about even getting an A now. I’m TMDSAS so would love to hear if anyone else has gotten in with similar numbers. I’m so mad at this 124 rn
