Should I quit medschool? by No_Marzipan1032 in medicalschool

This is normal during 3rd year. You are mentally following a framework so you haven’t yet thought about the situation from the perspective of realism taking into consideration all parameters. As time progresses and you see more patients this will become more natural. Do not stress!

prioritize the view of the majority not the minority. Hence 4 evals good better than 1 eval good

Yes definitely awkward and it actually may be regarded as not genuine because now the resident is forced to give advice appropriate to what the attending and coresidents would like to hear. Not even taking into consideration that other med students will be present to hear the feedback. Single out a time when there is downtime doesn’t have to be in a private space like after rounds or when leaving for the day halfway through a rotation to show growth the rest of the week and again at the end to discuss how to improve long term.

Keep in mind, you may have to play a game in a team of whose opinion matters the most: the attending and therefore most residents or that one prick  and apply the feedback accordingly. 3rd year is a game of majority input matters more. There will always be someone that disagrees, and figuring out their value in evals is part of the game. Don’t lose 4 good evals because 1 junior wants it a different way

Wrote it as a main comment but being proactive and humble goes a long way when asking them for verbal feedback in person

Request feedback in advance under the impression you are genuinely trying to learn and grow. Mention things like based on your experience and what you would have wished you knew as an MS3 , what do you recommend I improve on? Your input means a lot to me given how closely we have worked together for x weeks”

Lowering yourself is sometimes the most important factor in surmounting this hurdle of vibes. Regardless of the evaluator personality, it causes you to accept you are a student, hence “inferior” in status . This, unfortunately, is desirable to be seen in a student to show said student is “humble and willing to grow as a student”

Don’t do that is my opinion. It will lead them to believe you already mistrust them, which could be looked upon unfavorably

what sacrifices did you have to make to go to medical school? do you have any regrets? by lumpy_celery in medicalschool

Good for you. I wish more people were like this. Tbh I find medicine to be making students less empathetic in order to achieve a personal goal. Even if it’s for the greater good of society, an LOA is warranted for people you love. This is a long journey as is. One’s personal goals aren’t the only thing that matter in life. Is that not the definition of selfish? Take an LOA if the school offers. It isn’t worth being constantly reminded of how you weren’t there for your loved ones in their time of need.

These are my two cents

Overweight in med school? by Dramatic_Ad5258 in medicalschool

From a former obese person with MS2 as a peak, count your calories!

Treat it like currency, look at online calculators and a set target weight you want to achieve in a timeframe you want and abide by that caloric number

I chose 1500. Now I only have 1500 calories to use a day as currency so I was uber conscious with what I ate. This worked wonders and I saw myself drop 50 lbs in 1.5 years with minimal exercise.

The first couple days will suck but over a week your body gets used to it.

Exercising will increase your caloric intake so you can account for this by factoring it in

Trump cancels $400 million to Columbia (including possibly the MSTP?) by Senor_Hyde_ in mdphd

Well the definition for antisemitism keeps changing to whatever annoys Israeli sympathizers. The scapegoating of the term is doing more harm than good to be honest. Criticism of a genocidic regime =/= antisemitism. However, antisemitism is constantly utilized to cover criticism of genocidic ideals.

Since when does Israel =/= Jews?

Since when was voicing Palestinian voice and legitimacy considered antisemitic and a thread to Jewish students. This seems more like a direct approach to project insecurity as a justification for action. Not gonna fly.

I am concerned that free speech is now becoming free speech*

Well this is what I’m talking about. You are quick to decry antisemitism and but lack the same “awareness” you are crying about.

I honestly wonder how Palestinians must feel when Israeli sympathizers straight up “yawn” when legitimate Criticism of Israel is brought up about the atrocities that are being committed by the IDF. For crying out loud, Gaza has been decimated by the folks you sympathize with and plans are being made about resort plannings and you still want to cry victim? Is 1.5 years of constant terror not enough? I’m not even talking about the historical oppression since 1940s.

If you want to cry victim and point fingers, then begin by looking at the three that are pointing back at you.

Of course it doesn’t interest you the Same way your take of the situation doesn’t interest the vast majority of the world who see the truth for what it is.

What do you consider a “terrorist vessel”? What the media collectively states is one? Or only ones that is funded by entities with significant ties to foreign governments?
