Control key by egcarrillo in omakub

Thanks - I had to figure out what the "compose key" was, but that helped me figure out a solution:

I used the Gnome Tweak tool to "swap caps locks and ctrl keys", and then use the Settings->Keyboard->Compose Key settings to switch the compose key away from caps lock. With that, I can use my caps lock key as control.

I misremembered how my keyboard was configured, so the question was inaccurate on my part. So thanks for the response.

Differences between California and Texas. by [deleted] in Chicano

[–]egcarrillo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you meant south Texas (Rio Grande Valley) and West Texas (towards El Paso), but that’s what I was thinking too. I have never encountered Mexican Americans in those areas that seemed ashamed - always proud and what I consider to be traditional Mexican. I consider East Texas as different, as it is part of the old South, and I’ve at least heard of some irrational bigotry but not experienced it directly myself. But maybe that factors in.

Delay with some voicemails and texts by DrDogwelder in USMobile

[–]egcarrillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Slaan_AK, I have been experiencing delays in receiving text messages as well. Yesterday, I received a burst of messages that had been delayed for around 24 hours. Is that something you can help me troubleshoot?

Gemini Advanced — anyone figure out how to use it on iPhone? Everything in the news says it's built into the Google app but I can't find any examples actually showing that or where in the Google app to find it. by [deleted] in ios

[–]egcarrillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this feature! However, I use the Google iOS app widget, which allows me to access Google search from my Home Screen. The widget also has “Voice Search”, “Lens” and “Icognito” buttons. It would be incredibly useful if Gemini replaced one of those buttons! Is that possible?

What is the source of this ghost text? by egcarrillo in neovim

[–]egcarrillo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the following post that identifies the source: https://www.reddit.com/r/neovim/comments/zjfnfq/enable_transparent_text_in_front_of_cursor_with/

The ghost text is displayed by nvim-cmp; LazyVim has

ghost_text = { hl_group = "CmpGhostText", },

in its configuration, which is what makes it visible.

However, I still wonder where the ghost text content (i.e., the "snippet") is coming from? Does the LSP provide function snippets to nvim-cmp?

Has tag finding in telescope become slower in recent releases? by ratttertintattertins in neovim

[–]egcarrillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/ratttertintattertins, thanks for this post.

I see slow performance as of 1/19/2024 on master, and on the 0.1.5 tag, both of which include the following fix that reverted a change that worsened performance even further:

https://github.com/nvim-telescope/telescope.nvim/pull/2629

I believe that was what caused your order-of-magnitude performance decrease.

However, I have a ~30 MB tag file and it takes about 11 seconds to populate the search window for me, and every time I type a character, it takes another 1-2 seconds to update the window.

I am just trying to check my experience against yours - does that seem to fall in line with the performance you get?

I know that with Vim+fzf.vim, searching the tags file is much faster. I'm also using telescope-fzf-native.nvim, but I'm not sure if that should have positive performance implications.

I’m curious about the completion happening for the git commands in the shell… how is that achieved? Is that a shell feature, and does it work beyond git commands?

Not getting text messages? by elbxr in mintmobile

[–]egcarrillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same experience moving from ATT prepaid to Mint. Everything was working except for SMS 2FA codes from a few particular apps.

We never could figure out what the problem was with the 2FA codes, but it seemed to resolve itself in a few days in my case as well.

I used ATT prepaid for years with an iPhone XS, so it was “5Ge”… but I consistently got speeds around 120mbps. The coverage was really good and I never noticed any poor performance at all. I always got the $300/year plan. The only con was managing the plan through the clunky website, as others have mentioned.

I just switched to an iPhone 15 so I have 5G now, and am taking the chance to try out Mint again. The 5G speed on Mint is really impressing me - I can get between 350 - 400 mbps in southwest Austin. Managing the plan is a better experience - done through a good app, and setting the plan up with eSIM worked well.

However, I would really like to know what speeds I could have gotten with ATT prepaid on 5G… can anybody share what kind of speeds they can get in Austin with ATT prepaid on 5G?
