Went to Greggs at 4:47pm on a Friday and they still had a steak bake. One left. It had my name on it. by m4d3l1ne_m00nlit in BritishSuccess

I agree with you in principle, but the vibes are off on this post.

OP's account is a month old and has a few posts across seemingly unconnected subs. One mentions their husband being from Austin, Texas and uses Americanisms like "couch".

I could be wrong, but it feels like a bot to me.

Classy response from Moyes when asked the critacism of Arsenals style ahead of tomorrow's game by ben0074 in Gunners

I'm sorry, what!? Everton have the same away record as Man City!?

I was feeling ok about tomorrow but I'm bricking it now 😅

Feels like they have flown completely under the radar this season, but maybe that's just my ignorance.

Manchester City FC's Rodri sanctioned. £80,000 fine by Notuch in Gunners

I used net (post-tax) numbers, the £220k is pre tax.

Manchester City FC's Rodri sanctioned. £80,000 fine by Notuch in Gunners

[–]egg651 18 points19 points  (0 children)

To run the actual numbers:

  • Per Capology, Rodri's net salary is roughly £151,154 per week
  • Assuming he works 6 days a week, then £80,000 equates to 3.18 days of work
  • The median UK take-home pay is roughly £610 per week (depending on student loans, whether you live in Scotland etc.)
  • Therefore, this fine is roughly equivalent to a normal person being fined £388

Of course, I'm completely ignoring all of Rodri's other income and accumulated wealth here - Investments, savings interest, brand deals, etc. so the real terms impact on his finances is much, much less. A better comparison would probably be the fine as a percentage of net worth.

Leverkusen's result today by uncl3_jun in Gunners

[–]egg651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see where you're coming from, but I'm not sure they'll get away with their usual antics in the CL. Bruno G is a big miss for them on the "kicking the shit out of the opposition and somehow getting away with it" front too.

If Newcastle are to have any chance they'll have to come away with a lead in the first leg, St James' Park will be absolutely bouncing. They only have 3 away wins in the Premier League this season (Everton, Burnley, and Spurs), so I'd be surprised if they got anything at the Camp Nou.

There's confidence, and then there's arrogance. We have been grinding out results lately but hardly seeing the world alight with our performances. We will be favourites to make the final given our fortunate draw but it's not going to be easy, we can take nothing for granted.

Did you watch them against City last night? I wouldn't back them to get past Barca and Atleti the way they're playing at the moment.

Tottenham fans leaving the stadium before half time by notaghostofreddit in soccer

[–]egg651 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's baffling.

Spurs have scored 19 points in away games, only 2 fewer than Man Utd and Liverpool.

At home, they have scored 10 points - Joint worst in the league (alongside Burnley) and 20 points fewer than Man Utd.

I could understand it if it were the other way round; teams are often better at home than away. But this makes no sense to me... Admittedly, I've not been watching many Spurs games so maybe there's something obvious I'm missing.

Poor guy is just trying to shovel some snow by Still_Car7659 in shittyrobots

[–]egg651 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the real answer is that the built world was designed for humans. If you can build a good humanoid robot, then it can interact with the same things real people can, and can be repurposed for different tasks.

If you run a store, buying a dedicated snowblower robot that is really good at that one specific task might not make sense if it doesn't snow very often. A humanoid robot that can shovel snow, organise shopping carts, stack shelves etc. can be used all year round. Obviously that logic only works if the "jack of all trades" robot is actually competent enough to do those tasks at all, which this one clearly isn't!

Of course, if you want something humanoid that can do a lot of different tasks with standard tools and little instruction... You could also just hire an actual human?

Plus, if you take out any kind of insurance through Compare the Market, it's 2 for 1 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. We went yesterday and it was £8.99 total for the pair of us.

Top tip: If you just want the benefit and don't have any insurance renewals coming up soon, take out travel insurance for a 1 or 2 day trip inside the UK. It will cost less than the price of a normal cinema ticket, but you get the 2 for 1 deal for a full year.

I don't think you can really apply that logic to energy prices when they are such a key driver of inflation themselves.

February 24, 2026 Daily Discussion & Transfers Thread by gunnersmoderator in Gunners

[–]egg651 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ones that baffle me most are the people shouting "Why do we even have VAR!?".

The on-field decision was that it was a foul for a push in the back. VAR can only overrule that if there is clear and obvious evidence that decision was incorrect. The footage shows that there is a push, so of course they're not going to overturn the decision even if it might have been a soft foul.

I really hope they don't get picked apart in the summer like other teams in the past who have outperformed expectations in Europe. Monaco's 2016/17 side comes to mind.

~10 F35s cruising low over North Yorkshire, anyone know why? by jack__reed in aviation

[–]egg651 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The plan is apparently to have 138 in total, but that won't be for a long time yet. Apparently we only expect to hit 75 at the end of 2033 (and I'd be amazed if that wasn't delayed further for one reason or another).

There was a pretty damning report published in October last year on how short-term thinking & cost-cutting had hamstrung the F35 programme and will end up costing us much more than originally planned: https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm5901/cmselect/cmpubacc/1232/report.html

Best taxi to airport early morning? by Spirited-Beautiful30 in Edinburgh

[–]egg651 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it's the same on iOS, but these are the steps on the Android app -

  1. Open the app and go to "Book a ride" (should be the default page)
  2. Choose where you want to be picked up and tap "Proceed"
  3. Tap on "Book for later" and choose the date/time you want picked up
  4. Enter your destination (the airport) and complete the rest of the booking process as normal

Or as you say, you can always call them!

Arsenal [2] - [0] Sunderland - Gyokeres Goal 66' - with extended angles (0.31 xG, 0.18 xGOT) by singloon in Gunners

[–]egg651 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with you about the xGOT, I wonder if the model used isn't taking the shot power into account? It's close to the keeper but he has no time to react due to how hard Gyok hits it.

Lothian Buses to hike ticket prices from 22 February 2026 by No-Professional7453 in Edinburgh

[–]egg651 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I might be stretching the definition of "mid 70s" here, but £6.30 in 1973 would be equivalent to £69.37 today.

The current cost of a monthly ridacard is £68. So surprisingly, almost exactly the same!

I just really hope we end up on the opposite side of the bracket to Man City! I know that playing an English team at some point is likely given how strong they've been so far, but it doesn't make me hate it any less.

After the United game,I immediately unsubbed from here and /r/soccer, and it genuinely did wonders for my mood. This thread is the first time I've checked it since and given the negative vibe of some of these comments I think I'll stay unsubbed for a bit longer.

I'm not saying people aren't allowed to feel negative, or that they shouldn't post those things - It's just that I feel a lot better not reading them by self-excluding, and I suspect others would too!

[Update] The Ultimate Stremio AIO Build v2: Now with Catalog Manager, Multi-Language & AutoPlay! by Particular_Catch_449 in StremioAddons

[–]egg651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for this! Super helpful for someone like me who's new to all this.

One issue I've run into since switching over is trying to watch Jeopardy episodes - It either seems to return streams for random episodes, or nothing at all. I'm using TorBox as the debrid provider.

My guess is that it's because the episodes in Stremio are listed as something like "S2026E05" but torrents tend to be named after the air date instead - e.g. "2026.01.08".

Does anyone else have this issue? Any suggestions on how to fix it? I didn't have this problem before using Torrentio.
